So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Should have been a trivial annoyance but it isn't now and I am VERY upset over it. Just three weeks ago we closed on a house. The previous owners had been there 3 years during which time the did absolutely no yard work. The first thing we did was clean up the yard and and flower beds. It was a...

I have recently (well, for quite some time actually) have found that as I age (i'm 56) I have an increasingly lower tolerance for noise. Maybe it's just cabin fever from working at home with the family around, but I simply cannot concentrate with people talking around me or other ambient noises...

To beard or not to beard?

Started to let mine grow when this covid business began and I started to work from home . Then my mother saw it and said I looked like my brother. Off it came. I'm NOT fond of my brother. (viscerally so)

    What's For Breakfast...

3 hard-boiled eggs chopped up with butter, salt and pepper eaten with 2 slices of whole grain Wasa. (would have preferred simple white bread and butter. But I REALLY would have preferred one or two of those scones above!)

My pet peeve is when I'm backing out of a parking space and I'm easily half way into the isle and somebody speeds by behind me. I regularly see this scenerio on the highway: I'm in the middle of a three lane highway with nobody around me and one car some distance ahead. A car will come...

weather - meh, I just take it as it comes and deal with it. Maybe if I were the outdoors type I'd think differently.

How interesting. Come to think of it, my folks (mom b.1930; dad b.1928) never spoke, fondly or otherwise, about their musical tastes growing up. A couple of times mom mentioned liking Harry James but that was likely only because I played trumpet up to and through college. The only LPs I remember...

I find it very amusing that every so often when I open a program on my computer, usually a browser or an email application (which was the impetus for this posting), a pop up survey will appear asking how likely would I be to recommend such and such software/program to someone. I always select...

They also do the nagging voice better than males. The self serve scanning kiosks at out local grocery store has a polite, if even attractive, female voice noting what has been scanned: "Red delicious apples... 95...cents", but if you take too long to remove the item from the scale a quite...

The self check kiosks do indeed have long lines and are usually are populated by people who either don't know how to use them of shouldn't be using them. Often the store staff also doesn't help the situation (at least at my store) by not being attentive to the flashing call light. But in usual...

We have taken to scanning everything ourselves. We scan our shopper's card at the entrance and get a scanning gun then go on our happy way scanning as we go. Then we go to a register station and scan the bar code on the screen, it downloads everything we scanned then we pay for it. The only...

I agree. I was referring to the aspect of size. Add in such styling and that would be ridiculous.

No, they pretty much all look stupid if you ask me. My son's high school music teacher subscribes to that style. A man in his 40s and he looks like he's wearing the same suit he wore in high school.

Annoyance du jour: Modern "slim" suit / jacket styling. I'll never understand the attraction of wearing a suit that looks like you outgrew it. Looks ridiculous in my opinion.

My son (9th grade) suggests to me that apostrophe s is now the standard even if a word ends in S - "Charles's". This wouldn't surprise me. Anything to streamline education and eliminate exceptions to the rule. That's what we have come to. But, son advises me that he doesn't do it because it's...

I agree it is most annoying when people talk in such a manner as to intend their conversations to be overheard.

In grad school we kept a tally as to how many times a certain professor (an august old fuddy-duddy quite resembling Burl Ives) said "as such". I was crestfallen to learn from one of my own students that I too used a certain phrase all too often in the classroom. I can't remember what it was...

Agree. Interestingly enough, awesome is really not a part of my vocabulary. I just never seem to use it. My wife will though, usually with a child and with regard to a praiseworthy accomplishment. (I just say good for you...).

Remember the days when it was "awesome"?

Though largely an atheist, I thank you for that. It's a much needed and sincerely appreciated replacement for George Burns and Morgan Freeman.
