A couple of Jail: Big Texas, the last of the Son of 24 mini-series, and the twin-spin of the The Blacklist return. In there somewhere was the reboot of MST3K, The Beast of Hollow Mountain. (Not in one sitting--)
The first two episodes of the Netflix reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The new show captures the look and vibe of the Joel and the Mike editions quite well. First movie was Reptilicus, followed by Cry Wilderness. The former is very much stuck in it's genre (prehistoric monster let loose...
Kubo and the Two Strings - stop motion animated film. Technically extremely well-done, but for me the most fun was the dialogue, full of asides and one-liners, between the Monkey and the Beetle, voiced respectively by Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey. From the same company that brought us...
Last night, a recorded Blacklist Redemption. It can get a little confusing from time to time: who's playing who? And has anyone else noticed how much of the action sequences are in basements, abandoned warehouses, and industrial hallways? Or do I sleep through the fights that are staged in...
Tonight we skipped our weekly Mexican food take-out and visited Lucille's instead.
But last night, pan fried pork chops, 3 minutes in the skillet, flip, 3 minutes on the other side, then 3 minutes (skillet and all) in the oven. Missus made gravy from the drippings, which included the Tradewinds...
Southern Surf Stompcast, which is just what the name says, surf bands from around the South, and Western Star, a rockabilly label from England, whose podcast features some of their artists.
As mentioned on the Pat Novak, For Hire thread, PNFH, The Jack of Clubs. Raymond Burr as Inspector Hellman projects barely-controlled rage and seems to want Novak in prison or dead. The tension between the two, expressed in the staccato insults and threats, is breath-taking.
Just today listened to the first Webb network show (if I remember correctly) Jack of Clubs. Favorite simile: "It was like trying to weave a blanket with a spinning wheel and a bucket of sand." I'd like to go back and re-listen in broadcast order. This is one of my all-time favorite series.
Caught up on The Blacklist, Jr., and then the return of Agents of SHIELD. We're really liking the The Matrix-like setting, and seeing some characters come back. It's sort of a Bizarro-world story line--
A pizza from one of those design your own pizza chains, along with Last Shellhammer at Home son; Missus insisted she wasn't hungry until we got back, and then had "just a slice" from each selection.
When I design my own pizza, the store records a sharp dip in profits for that day.
Wings of the Navy (1939) George Brent, Olivia DeHavilland, John Payne, and tons of recognizable faces. Navy flier brothers, one a seasoned vet and the other just out of Annapolis and starting flight school. Lots of footage of Naval aviation, especially some shots of the PBYs. As Lizzie Maine...
Watched the recording of Thursday's Blacklist spinoff. Sort of like the old tv Mission:Impossible, but with ethically amorphous team members.
Then, Blue Bloods, again recorded and watched later. Now, I admit I'm stretching possibilities here, but some of the characters are Jamaican and speak...
Shane. I had never seen this before. IMDB says it was completed in 1951, but director George Stevens took about two years in editing and post production, hence the 1953 release date.
The shot where hired gun Jack Wilson enters Grafton's saloon and makes a steady walk towards the subjective POV...
