Thank you, Lizzie, for suggesting some years ago that I read The Status Seekers. It changed my views and this thread is now speaking to some of what's in the book. I highly recommend anyone interested in class to read it.

    L.L.Bean scraps lifetime return policy

As an aside, their marketing copy has been awful, in my opinion. The whole "Be an outsider" and now "The Outside Is Inside Everything We Make."

Is ebay about to end selling vintage and unique items?

"John Donahoe, the new boss of eBay announced that he wants Ebay to work as a strip market and not as a unruly flea market. Amazon as of late has been taking over most of Ebay’s best buyers and sellers." That was a quote from 2008 and I recall very well when he took over. That was the beginning...

Is ebay about to end selling vintage and unique items?

But it might eliminate the items you wish to purchase if sellers can no longer list them under the new policies. That's the concern.

Is ebay about to end selling vintage and unique items?

The issue is that ebay is forcing sellers to select their listed product from a catalog that will pre-populate many of the fields. As it's written, if it's not in the catalog it can't be listed which would eliminate the option to list vintage and unique items. But then digging further as I...

Is ebay about to end selling vintage and unique items?

I'm digging into the details and see this: To meet buyers’ continuously evolving expectations, eBay is transitioning many categories to a product-based shopping experience where all listings for the same product are grouped together...

    L.L.Bean scraps lifetime return policy

L.L.Bean had this policy in place right before the new change to one year only that addressed not accepting returns from yard sales, etc but left the overall guarantee intact: Easy Returns & Exchanges We make pieces that last, and if they don't, we want to know about it. L.L. himself always...

Changes in Attitude in Marriage & Divorce from the Golden Era to Now.

I was married for 16 years. I initiated the divorce in 2014 even though I knew my world was going to fall apart in all ways and even though I still loved him. I couldn't walk on eggshells any longer and was done trying to make him happy by NOT BEING ME. It's trite but true that you find out who...

The Gender Thread, vive la difference!

I bring my fiance his coffee in the morning and I have a hot homemade dinner on the table every night because I love to do it. I do it by choice and not because it's expected of me. If there were any hints of condescension or patronizing expectations that'd be a different story.
