Always thought the leathers on elmc jackets are a bit hit or miss. Some look rich and beautiful and some are flat and underwhelming. The californian i tried was really underwhelming and probably the reason why I didnt buy it.
Looks great as is and that leather will probably darken quite a bit from exposing it to the elements. I'd probably just taking Carlos' approach and just starting with spraying it with water and see where that leads.
This was not on me as I just ordered a stock one in a stock size, but over on VLJ they had close communication regarding the specs for the Dubow A-2 and Shawn even bought a tattered original to get the pattern and dimensions right. But it goes to show how far Shawn will work with you to get what...
I think it was members of VLJ that suggested the specs for the leather on that jacket. I think the brief was that it should be mismatched panels with the flaws such as scars and striations to still be used on the jackets as this was the characteristics of the originals.
Wow! Simply wow! So many crazy, daring options on this. In the plainest brown CXL I think this might be my dream jacket.
That fit looks perfect to me, snug at the waist with a little more comfort in the shoulders and chest.
That corduroy lining and those storm cuffs....Crazy but crazy good :)
The A-2 is in the proprietary goatskin Shawn sourced to be used on the Dubow contract. But I contemplated having an A-2 made in the Buffalo before that.
I liked the first jacket in this thread with the steerhide. @ton312 didn't have his new phone when so his pictures weren't the best when he had his, but I think he was slightly underwhelmed by it.
I personally don't feel bad that Carlos pointed this out in the first place and I don't feel it diminshes Jin's jacket at all.
If one goes through this thread there is a clear evolution in the quality of the design, patterns and the leather quality. And much of that evolution comes through the...
I think Shawn is still feeling his way through our sphere here at TFD and some of his choices when it comes to leather treatment and distressing seems somewhat overdone, but his ability to listen to advice and his willingness to try things people suggest are way beyond any other maker I've read...
Yeah, I dunno. When I zoom in on Jin's jacket I get the same feeling of the deeper, "porous" pebbling I associate with deerskin grain. Although it is very uniform in size and depth.
