Well gents, I am now the proud owner of a 1964 Star Sports G1! It's actually in better shape than I initially posted. I rubbed some candle wax on the zip and its loosened up pretty well but it seems to be tarnish which is making it stiff so I might run a dremel with a soft polishing wheel over...
Thanks for the responses Gents.
El Marro - Interesting labelling info. The label on the jacket is pretty time worn so I don't remember seeing any date on it. It's an extremely tempting jacket but the vendor wants $300 Aussie dollars ($235USD) which is a bit steep in my opinion as I think I...
Morning all,
One of my local vintage shops currently has a Star Sportswear G1 for sale which fits me (this is a bit of an occasion as I'm a fairly big lad!).
While the leather is intact (no splits/holes or overly dry spots) is still in fairly "worn" condition. From what I can see the...
Hi Dan.
How are the arms on the jacket, I read somewhere that I he older Aero Irvine had quite a tubular arm shape. Can I also ask how the jacket fits you and what your chest and shoulder measurements are? Also, would you be interested in a trade? I have a 44 Aero Teamster in FQHH which may...
Thanks for the kind words fellas, I'm very happy with it!
Meachamlake, the pit to pit measurement is 25inches and the waist is 24 inches.
If it helps, I'm 6'3, 98kg, 44 chest
Regards
Garry
Will get back to you with the measurements in the morning mate (11.30pm here).
I think I went the standard arm length which initially felt a little long but they do shorten with wear plus the extra length is most welcome when I'm on a winter jaunt in my MG.
Regards
Garry
Hi Meechumlake. I've recently bought the B6 in the Redskin. I'm a 44 chest and was advised by Aero to go the 46. Personally I feel it fits marginally on the large side when wearing it with a shirt or tshirt and perfect with a jumper.
Your marginally broader than me so I would be inclined to...
ESM, think long and hard before ordering an Aviation Lesthercraft jacket. I had one of their full weight Irvins and while the jacket is constructed beautifully with super heavy sheepskin, I found it unwearable due to how heavy it was and above all the tubular arms. It was just too hard work and...
No problem mate. I'm in Victoria in a town called Ballarat which is about sn hour inland from Melbourne. I've been here about 18 of my 47 years and still loving it. I still miss home and the familiarity of it but I think I'm a lifer here now. I've never been to Perth but heard great things about...
Hi ESM. I have the Aero B6 in Redskin and its litterally never off my back at this time of year in Australia. The one I have is in the more recent sheepskin that is not as dense are Aero's previous skins but is still plenty warm for my winters. I'm originally from Edinburgh so possibly have a...
Hi mate. The jacket is still available if your interested. I'm pretty tall and have no issue with the arm length, infact, if anything they are a little long.
Garry
Hi Darknight. I've recently receive an Aero B6 and I know that they will make you a jacket out of any sheepskin they have. I had one of their pre war irvins and it was made out of the same hide as my B6. It's a good weight for us in Oz but I think you might struggle a bit in NSW tho.
Hi Seb, got your message on EBay. The jacket weighs 2.5kg and I think it's Med weight tartan.
I've been contacted by another lounger from the states who has agreed to buy the jacket for $600 AUD+ p & p but he seems to be mucking me around a bit. I'm happy to sell it to you at the same price if...
Great Jacket Leither. Got to ask tho, which part of The People's Republic do you come from? I was born in Leith (Links Gardens) and lived their till I came to Australia 18 years ago. I'm still very much a Leither and a Mental Hibee!
