    Post New Hats Here!

Stetson riding derby, original cord still attached. One of my favorite sweatbands i've seen on a Stetson, really interesting woodgrain look to it. It also has a cork liner as pictured next to another derby of similar vintage.

    Post New Hats Here!

If someone wanted to keep it period correct, they could also source their own vintage ribbon. I've seen a few spools of fantastic looking vintage silk ribbon pop up on ebay every now and again. In terms of the blind brim stitching and aesthetic look of the hat though, I think they did an...

    Crofut & Knapp Tales

Turns out this lovely old brown bowler is actually a very early offering of Crofut and Knapp. I got confused after seeing the tipsticker, I thought it was a Knox hat because of the Moveo Et Proficio. It turns out both companies shared mottos for whatever reason at the time. Either way its a...

    Post New Hats Here!

I'll be sending it to Bob at Blacksheep, along with a few others today for some various needed repairs on a couple ailing bowlers. But I do know for a fact that Salmagundi's did an absolutely stellar job of replacing a brim binding on another loungers old bowler shown here...

    Post New Hats Here!

Great square straight profile on the crown, much more so than in comparison to the Lock and Co. I picked up recently. Bit of damage to the grosgrain ribbon on the right side but otherwise in fine condition. With a new brim binding and a bit of steam to ease out a minor dent and it'll be like new.

    Pre 1940s dress hats

Thank you gents, I think you're right about the age Josh. It appears to be a pretty close profile match to your old Howard like you said. Here's a close up of the front of the sweatband with some kind of wavy bit of fabric.

Some fantastic Borso's are popping up in Germany. Great pick up.

    Pre 1940s dress hats

Judging from the sweat and dimensions of the brim and crown, i'd guess this is early 1900's, maybe even a bit earlier.

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

Stetson riding derby I have another one with a cork liner thats an absolutely fantastic little bowler in terms of finish weight and the incredible stiffness they were able to achieve with a felt hat. This one is a bit more generous in terms of crown height and brim width so I was happy to see...

    Black Sheep Hat Works

Like Mike said both are a solid choice, personally though the blue heather is pretty versatile, out in the sun you get a nice vibrant blue. In lower light it actually looks like a charcoal gray. My next custom is going to be another bowler but this time in one of his in house long hair finishes.

    Pre 1940s dress hats

I think you're right I've seen a few old photos before from the period and I noticed some had the old stagecoach drivers wearing a square topped bowler. That gold Mayser is something else. Bow work is perfectly executed.

    Side By Side/ Hat Comparisons

It really is amazing the variety of crown heights and brim styles you can find between old bowlers.
