I have one that dates back to my military service and one representing my wife and marriage.
My wife is definitely not a fan, so I stopped getting more ink after we were married .... but ... after a year of running the covid response here, I am seriously thinking about memorialising this...
Right??
I keep coming back to that jacket and loving it. I just can’t shake it and I’m not even sure exactly what it is about it. The contrast stitching, the simple design, the waist band and the throat latch. Everything I read about BK’s Liberty leather is pretty meh, but I’m still thinking of...
Or a bit of artifice and decoration for those of us who rarely need to zip out jackets up. You’ll see them on trad English tweed jackets and Americana work shirts as well.
I really like the look of this one:
I get that exact same pulling on my mtm sports coats and dress shirts. Never could figure it out - though a few tailors said it has something to do with my shoulder angle (drop shoulder or forward shoulder roll, I think?).
I might of derailed this thread a bit, by referencing the Gold Standard - something young folks these days are unaware of or what the idiom means (ie, a widely known, universal baseline). Sorry!
Years ago I had a shirt with a banded collar that I liked a lot, until my gf of the time told me that it didn’t suit me. Something about having a long neck and head shape. While I didn’t really take her opinions too seriously, it was enough to take the shine of that shirt. I hardly worse it after.
Back in the day, the Gold Standard was a universal baseline to measure all currencies. Now it is just a pretty metal to make jewelry out of. Maybe it is more valued now?
Yep, absolutely! Redwing would be the gold standard for boots. Certainly doesn't mean they are the best (far from it), just that their ubiquity makes them the common baseline that we measure things by.
Oh no arguments that there are better leathers out there. But CXL is so ubiquitous now that it remains the baseline that most people use to compare quality. It's the gold standard we measure against.
CXL (steer or horse) has sort of become the gold standard in jacket world over the past decade for good reason. There are so many colors and different weights. Some CXLs also have more pull-up than others - creating a sort of distressed look after a few wears. It's hard to go wrong with Horween!
Purely a personal preference, but I agree with Mike that a good fitting CR should be very snug ... and that sort of fit looks better in a medium weight. Whereas as half belt looks better in a very thick hide. Cross-zips, for me, straddle the fence - either medium weight fitted or something...
Takes me back to my first biostats class! People have grown taller significantly over the past 120 years (largely due to improvements in agricultural industrialization and nutrition). Japan is usually cited as an example of a quickly growing population in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The US is...
