Things you bought because they appeared in the Fedora Lounge

I've not BOUGHT anything because I saw it here, but I have been INSPIRED to do things because of tips, pictures, or ideas that were mentioned here. I've learned so much about obscure, small things -- especially from LizzieMaine. The hair and sewing threads in the Ladies' Rooms are priceless...

    Harking for a simpler time.....

You may have been able to buy a full load of groceries for $10, but didn't the average person make about $30 a week? If so, that's not much different from a modern income/grocery bill. As for the era....I love it. I love knowing the good AND the bad! I like knowing obscure little things and...

    Barbie photos

A have actual vintage-styled Barbies. I don't know if there is a thread already about them or not. I have the entire "Great Fashions of the 20th Century" collection. My fave has always been 1910s: I even have the 70s one (the ugliest one! lol) just to complete the collection! :D...

Is it rude/inconsiderate to wear red to a wedding?

Spam? I remember posts like this before that linked to that website.

    Pajamas in public...

I reckon a lot of people will laugh at themselves for wearing PJ bottoms in public years from now. I remember in the 80s my aunt (who was IN her 80s at the time) was looking at photos of herself from the 20s. I remember she sneared and said "Goodness, I look like something the cat dragged in!"

    Pajamas in public...

I'm 36 and I just did lol I love making fun of myself in the past -- I was a right fashion maven in the 80s and 90s (need sarcasm tag here). I crack myself up when I look at old photos of my outfits lol I admit to wearing these, too. Basically just pajama bottoms with elastic around the...

Everyday Women of the Golden Era

I asked my grandmother if all women set their hair in the 40s and she told me a lot of girls in her high school had hair like mine (straight, shoulder-length bob).

    Pajamas in public...

Pants that wide came back in style briefly in the 90s -- in jeans form. "Skaters" wore them. They were made by a company called "JNCO", if memory serves me correctly. I owned several pairs -- at one point it was a bit of contest to see who could wear the widest pair. I once wore them to my...

    Pajamas in public...

I had to look this up because it didn't make sense to me. I assume you mean this: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=affectation Yes -- I'm affected, too, to anyone who side-eyes me lol lol lol I don't wear vintage all the time, though, but I NEVER wear PJs outside of my front...

Cumberland Conty, NJ -- most depressed county in NJ. The big job there is the glass factory. If you are lucky -- DOC, but you had to know someone to get into that. I often see people who are in a 1978 time warp -- the mullets, the car, the classic rock blaring from the radio, even the same...

    Pajamas in public...

I agree with there being a time and place for everything. PJs in court or at a fancy do -- yea, that's not appropriate. The only place I've seen people in PJs is the grocery store and that I can understand. And I don't see it very often here. I saw it more in rural NJ than here in citified...

    Pajamas in public...

Clap Clap Pompidou I've got better things to worry about than if someone has pajamas on, too. I could care less. As you said -- it is the 2010s. Vintage culture is the minority and NOTHING will make it dominant again, barring some huge cultural backlash. I never understood the whole looking...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Agree about the tags. Also, no idea how that could have been read as anything BUT sarcasm. No need to apologize, scooter. You said nothing wrong.

This is just painful to watch

Exactly what I thought before I even scrolled down. This video is painful for me to watch because of that "shock factor."

    Pajamas in public...

I'm in this school of thought. I collect Playboys from the 50s to the early 80s. Poohbang couldn't be more right -- very tame compared to today's mainstream "women's" mags you can buy at the counter. And all his film restoration work is amazing and admirable. It leaves some classic film fans...

Is style stuck in a 2 decade rut?

I also see the popularity of movies in the 1890s as a huge shift in time. For the first time we could visually capture current information and maintain it forever. Some people laugh at this, but what we say here on the Internet may be of great historical value in 150 years from now. I'm...

Is style stuck in a 2 decade rut?

This is exactly how I see it. Fashion isn't as important today as "staying connected." I also like to parallel these times to 100 years ago when movies were just starting out. Around 1896 is when movies began to take momentum -- around 1996 the Internet started to creep into homes of...
