I say everything mentioned here! Awesome, word, phat, "the bomb", rad, "sike", fantastic, amazing, swell....etc.!!! I like to be silly and funny. I like making people laugh.
Awesome, fantastic, and nifty are probably my three most-used. I reserve amazing for when something truly does blow...
When I was a kid my grandmother gave me an "old" 50s dress. It was pink and had yards and yards of chiffon (or something like it!) It was floor-length kind of like this:
She gave it to me for "play" and boy did I play with it!! I decided it would be better if I cut it into a mini-skirt...
I had a bunch of original Clara Bow lobby pictures. I'm not 100% sure of the names of them -- the still photos from movies that have a quote on them? Not lobby cards (???) Like these:
Anyway, I was unemployed and needed money so I sold them on ebay many years ago. I had several from...
Vintage I don't wear: anything with a circle skirt. Makes me feel like I should be performing in a play somewhere. Do they look pretty? OH YEA! Do other gals look good in them? Yup. I probably look good in them, too, but I just don't like the way they make me feel. It ends up wearing me.
I've seen Diplomaniacs! Isn't she shrink-wrapped in that? lol I also have a picture of her on my fridge. And I make my husband watch the Three Stooges episode with her on it when it's on TV! Haha! He loves the Stooges, but not that episode.
I'd be stunned if anyone knew of any other...
My love runs deep for Miss Marjorie White! I own a silent movie called Sunny Side Up made in 1926. It stars Vera Reynolds. I bought it off Grapevine Video (remember them?) I'd be stunned if anyone else has seen this.....
I'd also like to add that many of these fans haven't been exposed to "real" "edgy" entertainers who are probably truer to their causes than Gaga. To them, Gaga IS "edgy" amongst all the fake-n-bake blondes and homogenized hip hop stars.
Lady Gaga fully admits she has a team that creates her outfits and antics. She doesn't think she is "special and edgy." She knows she is an entertainer with a gimmick. Her hardcore fans, on the other hand....they're another story lol I'll admit they can be annoying and try to make her into...
Exactly! Never understood the "Gaga is manufactured" statement. All celebrities are manufactured to a point. Golden Era celebrities were probably more manufactured than anyone today! They obeyed or they became a has-been, just like today.
A friend burned 2 Dresden Dolls CDs for me and I wasn't impressed at all. I liked "Coin Operated Boy", but even that I have to be in the mood for. Some modern female singers that do it for me: Marti Brom, Kim Lenz, Siouxsie, Lady Gaga, and Beth Ditto.
I know who Amanda Palmer is. Don't care for her :/
I like "Coin Operated Boy" and that's it. Something about her voice doesn't gel with me.....
I like Lady G, though. It doesn't matter to me that she's manufactured and copies everyone lol -- her music is fun and catchy and not to be...
This would be me because I've never seen just about ALL the movies mentioned here. Never saw The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, etc. None interest me. Tried to watch Citizen Kane, but gave up after 10 minutes. Never was a big movie watcher -- more into music.
But as for movies...
That book on that link looks really interesting! It was published in 1940. Who can resist a history of "Accessories of Dress" up to 1940?? I bookmarked it to read one of these days...lol
Found this answer on google:
"Cap" shaped hairnets were for bobbed hair.
"Fringe" shaped hairnets were for long hair.
"The business of making hair nets began to decline in 1923. This was due to the popular fashion of bobbed hair. When this fashion swept the country it forced forty thousand...
I don't know if this is what this is for, but I have ads in my 1920s magazines for a net-like thing you could put on your head and it would form indents into your hair -- making "waves."
