The front of that brim (at least on mine) just wants to be up. It's the hat I generally grab when I'm just running out for a moment and it lends itself to informality with the brim up. I was wearing my caribou one yesterday. Goes with anything and mine is a nice fit.
As well you should be. That hat looks great on you! Perfect color, and something I noticed when I saw the first photo; the hat almost perfectly mirrors the shape of your face. Symmetry (I wonder, may that be a key to "the perfect hat" for someone?). The brim is just right. You and your hatter...
There's some cluelessness going on there—and that would be the author of the article. His solution? A pair of baseball caps (one pink, no less) and a fashion felt? Good for a chuckle.
I received more compliments yesterday on the Panama than I've gotten on all other hats combined. Colleagues at work and some folks on the street. I find it curious; was it the hat or the hat and the fact that I had my hair pulled back in a ponytail (which is very rare)? Hmm. May have to try the...
Another vote for a Tilley. Great all-around hat that takes no special handling. Do what you want to it—it'll be fine and do it's job while still looking good.
The unwritten code at work is you can wear your hat to and from your desk in the morning and evening or when stepping out for lunch, but not during the business day—that'd just be weird. Women do it, but that's their prerogative.
My little home-bashed Cuenca. Bought it at Panama Hat Mall as an open crown. What they didn't say was that it came with no sweatband. I bought a cheap bucket hat from a street vendor and had the missus take out the sweat and sew it in the hat. Braided horse-hair band with the "bow" in the back...
Wow, that's way cool! Is that airbrushed? Kind of has that look to it. I used to do that sort of thing with spray markers (though, not as nice as that). That's what I call a find!
Temps projected to be in the eighties today, so I'm wearing my recently acquired Delmonico Sanibel. It's my first "white" Panama. I was looking for something that looked like Barney Fife's hat and I thought this fit the bill nicely. 2 3/4" brim, snaps down easily, appears to be well made with a...
You're a natural. You wear them well.
Haven't been on board for a spell (work gets in the way). However, it doesn't get in the way of wearing berets—which I've been doing a lot of recently. Big breeze is a sure indicator that I'll be wearing one and it's been very breezy here for the past...
Oh, I've been following the thread, alright. Great idea and resource thread. But I hadn't seen that one you just posted. What I have learned is what you and the kind folks here have been telling me: The hat will let you know what it wants. It's just that in my case—sometimes not right away. I...
I'd guess a little of both.
Not as much reaction in DC today, but it still turned heads.
Great photos of the Brittany fishermen. When I can wear it as naturally as they do...
