I have read a lot about hobos in the teens to thirties, but I don't recall seeing much about them during WW2. Part of the glossing over the history books often give for that era, I guess, where we're expected to think every man/woman/child rolled up their sleeves and gave their all from the...
I'm on the downhill side of my model railroad layout build, and the layout takes place in 1943. I was given a hobo figure and I decided to just place it on the front porch of a log cabin so it looks like a hillbilly farmer, instead.
But it got me wondering, how common were hobos, homeless and...
The 4th of July parade in Centralia, WA went really well. I think we had almost 20 MVs in the parade, ranging from a Ford GP to a Humvee. They were all lined up sequentially in order of the year they were made. The crowds love seeing us, especially as no current military units showed up. We...
How about the Spanish0-built ME-109s standing in for P-51s in the movie, "Patton"? Many people never noticed but there's a flight of them painted as US planes in that movie!
I have no idea what happened to it. Being that they made the thing in Russia, I'd be willing to bet that you, too, could have one if you threw enough coin at them...
"The Pacific" didn't sit as well with audiences in general nor among the WW2 enthusiasts. I can't say why, as it could be many things:
People don't care so much about the Pacific Theater in general as they do for the European theater
The narrative bounced all over the place so you didn't care...
I found someone on another forum who knew what it was. It was a TV pilot called, "Sam's Circus" from 2001. I can't find much online about it, but I did find some video here:
I hope someday, someone will release the pilot as I can only assume there are scenes with this excellent Tiger mockup...
Thanks. It's never been restored, only maintained through 2 previous owners before me.
Has it's original engine and the paint was probably put on in the 80s or early 90s...

This Tiger was built for a movie, and for the life of me I can't recall the title. I'd read about in a magazine years ago, I think it was called, "______'s circus" but can't be 100% sure and don't recall...
I took my 1944 Willys MB to a local airshow last weekend. On Sunday morning, I took a few crew members of an Army HIMARS rocket launcher around the airshow grounds.
The first shot shows how important it was for us to secure the shave ice stand (they usually set us up next to the food vendors...
Only one guy ever made them and I think he made just a handful of them. I was lucky enough to get one from his test run. I don't think he has any more, but I will check with him. He's a really good guy.
FYI, my Jeep is a '44 MB, as well!
Wow, I was starting to think young folks getting into the hobby didn't know there was another Airborne unit other than 506th PIR... Nice impressions.
I assume the M1A1 Tommy gun is airsoft?
Yeah, but some who went through some of the amphib schools did have jump boots because it was discovered...
Yep, the world made sense, especially after VE and VJ days and the horrors of the Axis nations were made well known to the world.
I can't believe that subsequent generations now vilify Truman for dropping nukes on Japan. History always needs to be judged with a period perspective, not a modern one.
Made a third pole with transformer and climbing spikes:
After this photo, I added a third pole then strung all the wire. I took photos after the 'wire' was in place but you just can't see the wire in them. That EZ Line stuff made by Berkshire models for just this use works really well it's...
I made these two poles (which hadn't had the insulators painted nor weathered overall when I took this photo but all that is done now), one of which I'm adding a transformer box to right now and should be done before the weekend. I also bought a role of "EZ Line" from Berkshire, which is a...
Thanks again for the info. It'll be interesting making one of these in O scale but not outside of my ability. As the other poles I made and done and painted, I guess I'll need to make a third one, but I have the castings for the cross arms and plenty of dowel material to make a third from.
Thanks for the info. I assumed someone here would have some pre-war info on insulators.
But as for transformers, what would they have looked like before VE day?
