I think the armhole is indeed too high. I measured the A-1 shoulder seam to armpit (9 7/8") against my size 44 Corsair (11 1/4") and Dominator (11") that fit beautifully, and that seems to be what's throwing it off a bit. Here's a collage of the three jackets:
The jacket you pointed out is relatively inexpensive. I say try your luck on custom measurements and go for it. Yes, most of us (self-included) who have purchased from Fivestar have sold all of our jackets. There are many reasons we sold them. However, almost all of us have learned something...
I just picked up this near-new Lost Worlds horsehide A1 on the Classifieds. The horsehide is wonderful and this size 42 weighs a slender 3.33 pounds (which is great for SoCal). It feels a little snug in the shoulders and armpits, but I like how it looks. I also wonder if the sleeves and length...
Good condition Branded Garments heavyweight pebbled cowhide jacket in size 44. This is definitely one of the better, more substantial Branded Garments jackets. It has two interior pockets and comes with a detachable liner (not shown). All of the zippers work, and the hardware is very nice. There...
This is a catch and release of a nice Schott Type 3 in tan cowhide. Size XL, which is 44 equivalent. This is a lightweight jacket that leans more fashion than motorcycle. It can easily be worn sprint to fall.
Shoulder - 19.5”
Pit to Pit - 23.75”
Sleeve - 27”
Length - 26.25"
Waist = 22.25"...
This is the Branded Garments I scored from eBay that was listed in the deals thread. It's a pretty amazing piece. I'd say the quality is on par with Vanson. It's very heavy. Perhaps too heavy for my lightweight Southern California ass. I'm going to wear it today, but I may list it in Classifieds...
I'm not sure this is a amazing deal, but it's a pretty damn cool vintage Vanson rough out Type 3 for a decent price:

on this forum, unless a piece is from one of the most coveted brands or particularly rare, jackets typically sell at 50% or below of retail. schott is a great brand, but not the most coveted here.
$155 shipped conus.
Regarding the fit, I would compare them to the following boots/sizes:
Trickers - 9.5 UK
Alden Indy - 10 US
RM Williams Craftsman - 10G Aus
Lucchese - 10.5 US
White's semi-dress - 10 US
Iron Heart would not be the strong brand it is today without the marketing of Iron Heart International. Their prices are comparable to Freenote, Stevenson, Mister Freedom, Flat Head, etc. and the product is as good. I see this as well operating relationship between manufacturer and sales team...
the 40 looks great, you made the right choice. I've tried on the cafe racer version of this jacket at Self Edge and thought it was amazing. congrats on the purchase.
Excellent condition Schott P571 unlined black cowhide cafe racer. Jason Schott calls this his "indoor jacket" in the Stridewise Schott videos. I love this piece, but feel I'm the size between L and XL. And since I just booked a vacation to Japan in December, I'll get a replacement there. More...
