That looks fantastic! Great color, and very nice work! I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to how to do brim binding. That's several levels past where I am currently.
This has intentionally been an exploration of discovery for me so far; I didn't want to know too much -- I basically use what I've learned here over the years, watch some Youtube videos, and see how close I can get with household items and no real training... YET.
Other than finding these two...
This morning I’m wearing a light brown Resistol western with a buckskin band. Last night I converted the highish sides cattleman (one pic included here for comparison) to a pseudo Gus with a kettle curl.
My second project right now:
Started blocking my second hat, using the “other” block that I have. Both of my blocks are tall-ish, with little taper, but there are some subtle variations. One is a 52, and one is a 25. This is on the 25.
I used an undyed natural felt body, all rabbit. It is...
I really like both of those, particularly how you’ve done the ribbons— width, color, bow, etc. Needle and thread is still the scariest and sloppiest part for me.
I just started two projects. Here’s the first:
I had this Resistol western with a cattleman crease and high sides that i objectively like, but doesn’t get enough head time, so I put a sort of Gus in it, and wanted to try my hand with a kettle curl without a curling shackle/iron. It took some...
You might have guessed I’ve mostly worn my self made charcoal western this week. I did. But also, I wore this new Stetson Hats hat I found en route during a brief tour. I tried on a modern Stetson OR, and actually rather liked it, but it stayed on the shelf, as my hat money is tied up elsewhere...
There’s just nothing like wearing a hat you made, so I’ll only bore you with two pics of that one today, as I’ve been wearing it a ton. But also, for some variety, wearing a bit of my Buckaroo crossover western and silver belly BoP by Weather Hat Co.
Mixed it up yesterday, multiple times, with my Limpia Creek black western, Baron Hats dark moss bowler to see the Young Dubliners, and my Buckaroo tan heather western crossover for this morning’s tea.
yep. my first thought was that this could be a nice one to use to try my hand at putting on a ribbon, but I'm gonna let it sit for now because of its quirkiness.
bon
I found this Resistol Stagecoach yesterday. I expect it to be a project hat, but for now it’s just quirky enough and has enough personality that I’m going to leave it alone for awhile. I enjoy the asymmetry.
