Customs releases the item(s) after they are sure you are not importing for sales. My wife has stuff sent from her mother in Japan get stuck in there often. It takes from several days to weeks to receive them.
Waco has always been known for hats. Standard Hat Works in Waco has a great selection of hats and can make whatever you want. This might have been where the photo was taken. Nice people too.

I use 1 part Bulls Eye Shellac with 1 part Bickmore Kahl Hat Stiffener, mixed with 2 parts denatured alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray it on and steam it to help it absorb into the hat.
Funny story about that movie. I was at Costco here in Fort Worth shortly after first seeing it the first time and the guy in line in front of me looked familiar. I asked where I knew him from, he told me his name, Julio Cedillo. He was Melquades Estrada in the film, of course he was dead in most...
Grizz makes hats like they did 100 years ago by hand (he even boils the felt on a wood burning stove and heats his irons up on it too). He tries to make them authentic for that time period for re enactors. I know he uses wool felt and spends most of his time making them at festivals with very...

Just as with anything, you are paying for the name. My hats aren't as expensive (or as nice) as the Major's. I don't have the name or experience to justify it. Plus the hat body is only part of the cost so saying it costs only $100 doesn't take into account all the expenses especially time.
I saw comments at the end about the prices of the hats shown. Beaver is expensive and custom hats are a lot of work. Both hats in the article were great and worth it.
Yes it is. The only thing I like about that movie is James Caan's hat. Actually the photo I use on here was taken in front of one of the buildings used in the movie.
I am honored to have a friend who was in a lot of the movies mentioned here. His name is Jack Young and he was a stuntman during the early years. He doubled for Jack Palance when Shane shot him. He has some great stories and later got into the business behind the camera. He was Old Tucson...
