Candidly; there are many here with a greater knowledge and experience with Stetson hats. I think your question went unanswered as long as it did because so many ‘newbs’ appear here with a recent find or inheritance and seek only valuation of their hats and offer nothing as members.

You're welcome.
My hats change way more often than my dress does. Standard uniform for me is a western shirt and jeans with cowboy boots. The 5X fits right in with this.
It is a beautiful hat and I think the same of mine. Maybe the earlier hats were of a superior quality but the most...
Great group of hats that are covered by numerous threads around here with the exception of the 5X. I'm no historian but I have an example of all the hats you posted with multiple examples of the 3X. All of your hats, because of general shape and dimensions would be considered Open Road clones...
What HJ said along with the lack of flex in Caiman because it’s the boniest hide of all the reptiles used in boot making. Also, Caiman doesn’t take as well to the tanning and dyeing process in the same fashion as alligator and crocodile. Probably why there’s no color saturation in those seams...

Not like a thread around here to ever veer off track but maybe this will head it back, somewhat.
A lot of Presidents wore cowboy boots and many more were gifted them while in office. And why wouldn't they? It's a truly American form of footwear.

I have limited knowledge of Resistol's, so take this with a grain of salt. I figured one of the experts would have chimed in by now. I think you're probably close in your estimation of age, maybe into the 70's. It's definitely a western/cowboy hat. The brim appears to be over 3' and it's creased...
You're absolutely right and it is a nice hat. I have several that are very similar, just older. Also, yours appears to be a unique gray as opposed to the more common SB that mine are. That's just one of the things that makes your hat unique. The other is the three ply ribbon. That's very...
