Cool thread if just for those of us who are new listeners to the genre but are looking for more bands to listen to. You all have dropped a lot of names...

    Sears Roebuck

And which is still in business? I know, correlation doens't imply cause and effect blah blah... I love the old Sears catalogs though, my neighbors are full time garage sale wizards and have several--they're handy for research.

    Hat size versus acceptability.

Since I've been lately paying attention, there are guys out there wearing hats. Not just Amish guys, either. Even here in Small City Indiana. They're usually older than me, but those few with nice hats are striking that "balance" that Lefty mentioned. I haven't seen any that look to be...

Duke of York in Mauritius, early 1900`s

This is sort of the opposite of the "Ancestors in hats" thread... You must have some really great family history. Very cool picture!

Squadron patch – which AAF 'Air Force'?

Was this fairly common to have multiple units with the same number back then? It's really avoided today. I know there is the 1st SOW(ACW) and the 1st FW, but for ten years or so they made the 1st SOW change its name to 16th. Otherwise, though, it would seem to be a confusing practice.

Hey Wildblue, my folks are in Kodiak. I don't remember any fine hatters when I was up that way---but you'd think some of the fine sporting goods stores would at least stock something.

    New guy here...

Good to meet ya, Chum. I'm new to the crew as well. Wasn't there some hat production in St. Louis? You'd think it'd be a more savvy town...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Felicitations all Rob here, at your service. I came for the hats, but was already posessed of a bent toward all things golden era, particularly the... well, everything. And this seems to be the place for all that as well. Bartenders, stock up on Bulleit and Overholt and we'll get along...

Thin Man on TCM New Year's Eve 2009

I just watched the trailer for it (http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1336214809/), as I had never seen it. They used to put so much work into movie trailers!

    Railroad Pocket Watch

I have a beautiful watch, but unfortunately it has a way of stopping at random times (never while you look at it). It's an Elgin from 1918 IIRC. Also, I think it has fourteen jewels and railroads required seventeen? I know I looked it up at some point but my numbers may be off a little.
