howdy dolls, more of me begging you for some advice/help! lol
I really, REALLY want to make a "garrison cap" inspired hat for a wedding I'm attending in a few weeks. My "date" is going in his Navy dress blues and I want to milk the military theme a bit :) I LOVE this one, by etsy seller...
Oh I so would except that I'm afraid it's a little too formal for the wedding - it really is a pretty casual event (even if my "date" is wearing his dress uniform...lol). It's my best friends wedding and her dress is really really simple and I just don't want to look like I'm trying to upstage...
Houston is Mecca for thrift shopping if you know where to go. Most of the high-school, college crowd stick to Value Village (which is ok with me since their idea of "vintage" is double-knit poly....) so there are some real gems tucked away in the areas with less shopping traffic.
My mother's...
helppppppp! :)
Ok ladies I need some advice!
I have a wedding to attend in a few weeks and I'm going with a friend who is a Navy Recruiter. He's wearing his dress uniform (which is so vintage-y I love it, hurray for the Navy!) and asked me if I wanted to dress vintage....which is obviously...
I am an etsy ADDICT.
I wanted to share this lovely shop of vintage inspired, handmade hats that some of you ladies might like...for such lovely pieces, the prices are actually very reasonable.

My favorite:
Absolutely gorgeous WAC-inspired hat!
In my seemingly eternal quest for the perfect Halloween costume, I came across the official site of Carmen Miranda. There is a section of photographs which includes this page of photos of her clothing and accessories. There are some gorgeous and fantastic items and I thought you ladies might...
Sorry for the disjointed pictures, I'm not too handy with the self-timer. But here is my gorgeous hand-made dress I found for $5 (!!) at a thrift store. The beading needs a bit of loving restoration, but it's the most beautiful flame color and it is otherwise in exquisite condition. And it fits...
I know he's been posted earlier in the thread, but no one can have too much of him:
Paul Newman
No one has ever compared in my book. My friends think I'm crazy because I've always said that next to him, James Dean looks like a little boy.
Plus, Long Hot Summer? Yowza!

Silly novelty bowling dress which I am completely in love with! It's currently at $125...
While trawling through vintage patterns on ebay I came across this:
Despite being 3 buttons, this looks eerily like my jacket...does anyone recognize the time period of this Simplicity pattern? Judging by the design of the packaging? I wish I was that knowledgable, but alas I am not...[huh]
Ooooh, I hope we do this again because I totally want to get in on the hat action!
I go to University of Houston and the original campus buildings are all Art Deco buildings! Houston actually has a ton of Art Deco architecture: http://www.houstondeco.org/
You know, the more I think about it the more that's probably right...am I totally off in remembering some fashion spreads from that time of models in loose-er jackets & pencil skirts?
Ergh, & the more I think about it the more I think this jacket is at my mom's house in what I like to call...
:p I am a bit of a necklace nut! I just can't stop buying vintage & new costume jewelry and it all starts piling up! My friends call me the magpie, because I tend to hoard shiny things! :)
Howdy everyone! My name is Katy & I live in Houston, TX. I've been a vintage clothing/culture freak since I was a wee tot. My mother is an antique/vintage junkie and was dragging me to thrift stores when I was still in diapers & I've been incorporating vintage items in my wardrobe for as long as...
Hi everyone, this is an excellent thread! I have several items that I'm unsure about and would love some guesses or opinions on!
The jacket has one button closure & two little pockets at the sides. It isn't fitted, it flows nicely along the body rather than nipping in at the waist...
