Considering that it's been 2 years since I picked the hat up from Not-Bogart13, moved it a couple of hundred miles, and passed it to Scotrace, I think it should be renamed the Globe CRAWLING Hat. I wonder what it will look like if it ever reaches the Left Coast. Kim
For some reason, I don't draw sarcastic comments about my hats. Maybe it's because of where I live, or maybe it is because I'm "older" and may project a bit of so-called gravitas.
A small story . . . I have two Open Road-type hats, one a Stetson 100 and the other a VERY nice Rand's custom...
Hmmmmm. I spent a bit of time examining it last evening, and if it ain't leather, then you sure could have fooled me! Does your vinyl case clearly look like vinyl, or is it very close to the look and feel of leather?
Cheers,
JtL
Yeah, I think mine is vinyl. Whether yours IS leather or...
You say that the case is covered with leather. I've seen a few Stetson 100 cases on eBay that were described as leather, but my apparently identical case is covered with vinyl, or something of that sort. Are you sure it is leather? Perhaps some were and some were not. Just curious. Kim
Optimo
Well, I'm glad to hear that everyone else has had good experiences with them. I sent them an OR a couple of years ago with a couple of questions/options left open in the letter of transmittal. I expected a phone call, but all I got was the hat and an invoice. I was somewhat...
I bought a Borsolino from Joe in Oct. 2005 while in Ft. Worth and found his sales technique to be a bit pushy. I wasn't offended by that because I know I will buy or not buy on my own terms and I tend to have a detached view of such methods.
More recently, I sent a Stetson 100 to them in...
Removing Stiffener
For what it's worth, I'm having a Stetson 100 renovated by Peters Bros. in Ft. Worth, and when I asked if they could remove the stiffener they said, "No." According to the woman on the phone, the stiffener was put in during the felting process and that it was there to stay...
Peters Bros
I don't mind waiting for you to renovate my Stetson 100. I have frequently waited 3-5 years for custom gunsmithing jobs. Quality work is in demand and takes time.
Rands in Billings, MT, did a 20X Open Road for me this year. I visited in June and placed the order, and the hat...
Peters Brothers
Glad to hear it Kevin. Give my regards to Joe, and tell him I hope this will expedite the transformation of that Stetson 100 I sent him last week into a Shady Oaks. I was in your shop last year while visiting Ft. Worth. Kim Steiner
OK, can ANYONE meet me on I-80 or 80/90 in Ohio tomorrow? My wife and I are stopping for the evening near Toledo. (Send a PM with direct contact information.) Kim
Passing the Hat to Ohio
OK, we're heading west on the Harley Saturday, and I find I can strap the hat box on safely. If I can link up with Nick Danger or Scotrace on I-80, then we can get the hat moving again. If not, the next opportunity for me will be a trip to southwestern VA in early...
Sorry about the repeated posts!
Nice hat, nice suit, Aquia33! That puts me at 15 posts. Maybe PMs will work now, but that would not have helped on Wednesday. K. Steiner
Near miss in Washington
Yes, Aquia33 and I made phone contact in Washington, DC, but failed to pass the hat because of my last-minute decision not to throw the hat in the back of the Durango after not having heard from him. This weekend I will look seriously at the possibility of strapping the...
Passing the Hat
I've not heard from Aquia13, so I guess progress is going to slow a bit. Still contemplating strapping it to the back of the Harley. K. Steiner
Pass the Hat to Aquia33?
I'll be at the Washington-Capitol Holiday Inn at 550 C STREET SW this Wednesday night (the 14th), leaving as soon as possible on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, Wed. evening itself is not very good as I'll be at an event at the US Botanic Garden and won't be at the...
I now have the hat in central PA
Now, where to next? I mentioned in another thread that I could make a handoff in Washington, DC, on the 15th. Otherwise, I'll be heading west on I-80 by motorcycle in two weeks. I MIGHT consider strapping the hat box to the top of the tour pack for a few...
