I have to admit that I'm a little surprised at the vehemence of the counter arguement to the initial question. Maybe I'm just an old school military man but, I'm with MK on this one.
I raised my sons to wash their face (later, to shave) and comb their hair before they went out. To dress like...
So, is a "boiled shirt" for a dinner jacket just a uber-starched shirt? or is it something else entirely? If is different, where does one get a traditional shirt for a dinner jacket (no pleating)?? Thanks in advance,
When I was a kid we had one barber in town. We called him Dwayne the Butcher because no matter what you asked for, what you got was whitewalls! That was the '70s and all the guys wanted the long feathered hair. A year or two after High School I joined the military. After a few years of jumping...
Bye the way, there is a darned good reason for folding your uniform that way. If done correctly, they will all fit in your locker and stay wrinkle free. I've taught countless sailors how to do this. What really shocked me at first was the vast majority of young sailors didn't know how to tie a...
Came here almost 10 years ago in uniform to a very small base in Cambridgeshire, RAF Molesworth. Used to be a B-17 base in the war, then a nuke cruise missile base and now an intelligence center (no military intel jokes please, heard 'em all ;-). I retired from the Navy but stayed on here as a...
Thats why the Navy has Dress Whites and Dress Blues. We call out stand-up collar Dress Whites our "Chick Magnets" for obvious reasons (anybody here NOT see An Officer and a Gentleman?). That being said, have you ever tried to stay clean in a white suit with white shoes?? Not easy...
As a retired Navy man, we have many regulations about what uniform items can, and can not, be worn with civilian dress. While I would never wear another man's (or woman's for that matter!) medals, I'm happy to wear an old beat up uniform coat or old trousers from another period other than my own.
Asa Navy sailor, I've been to Pearl Harbor many, many times and it's still one of my favorite places. If you ever get a chance, take a walk down Admiral's Row. That is the "Officer Only" avenue with the big houses for admirals. Really cool.
On my first trip out the the USS ARIZONA I had the...
I was at Belvoir Castle (pr; Beaver here in the UK, but its pr: Bell-vore in the US) the other night for a christmas music do. Lovely evening, childrens choirs, classic guitarists, some jazz, etc, all thorought the joint, just walking around enjoying the scenery. I finally got a bit thirsty so...
So, one fine sunny saturday morning I get a knock on the door. I put on my dressing gown and open the door. Standing there are two fella's in suits, flashing badges. Special Agent Something and his pal, Orother, ask me if I'm me.
"Yes, sir. Thats me."
"Sir, we have a couple of questions for...
Hello all, just piped aboard!
Recently retired US Navy chief (Parajumper) living in the UK. I work for the US DOD at RAF Moleworth, old WWII US B17 base. Married to long legged Maine girl and have two teenage boys. I love travelling adventures, style, good wine and whisky, books, hunting...
Hello all, first post. Just for the record; I hate you all for making me spend an entire weekend reading a bazillion pages in this thread! The previous posts on creating this thread as its own section is spot on. There is so much info here that could be divided up into much easier to use bits...
