Had a Trident T150 clutch pull rod emerge into daylight just south and east of Le Mans. Stopped the resulting oil leak with chewing gum & nursed it back to the UK. Got a push off the ferry by the expedient of locking it to a stranger's Honda. :-) First gear was about shot by the time we got to...
The "lancer" front has an advantage in addition to being a fashion. With a wide overlap, it effectively gives a double layer at the front which is therefore warmer.
As I said, this belongs to a client. These coats are known to be out there but they are very rare. I will (with the owner's consent) try to post some pictures when (if) it gets to me.
One of our customers has a 1944 US Cavalry horse hide trench coat without a belt. Would it be in order to ask if anyone has pictures of the belt buckle ? Coat is chocolate brown, "blanket" lining. We have not seen it yet. I'd like to get as close to the original as possible, but the coat is a...
I thought someone might be interested in this picture. My Grandfather brought this car just before World War II. It is a 1937 Lagonda V12 short chassis Rapide. Possibly one of the prettyest cars made (IMHO obviously). The designer was W.O.Bentley. The car was maroon with buiscuit hide interior...
Rer: Ross rifle
I have always coveted a Ross. A very fine sporting rifle in a sporting caliber. BUT. The .303 adaption of the Ross was a serious mistake, never worked properly in the field & has blighted a great design. My grandfather was NOT impressed.
I have been trawling through threads long dead, and come across several posts that stste pretty certainly that there are repros of Lightning zips (as found on Irvin jackets) out there on the market. But no-one actually says WHERE. So, can anyone help me out ? I have a "coastal command" jacket on...
I have sitting before me an "Irvin" flying jascket. And it looks a "wrong 'un" to me.
There are NO vent eyelets under the arms. The back of the collar is stitched "crosswise" not zigzag, and there is no band over the collar seam.. The neck strap is an eyelet & buckle type, not double "D"...
Sheepskin luftwaffe jacket
I have a client's jacker in for restoration. i read this thread with some interest as it seems to be:
(1) an official military garment
(2) Very early.
It has a couple of labels on the waist:
Label 1 red on white
Gerat-Nr 321-40 A-1
Anforderz: Fl 37017-4...
Heresy :-)
NoNoNoNoNoNoNo. Please don't do that. It makes doing a proper repair at some later a total nightmare. Get it repaired as soon as possible so that the damage is limited. Don't let it get like this....

Shortening zips is not rocket science - and the Conmar zips from MASH even come with the wherewithall to shorten them. We tend to buy zips in at 26 inches and shorten them down.
Talon (tag-it pacific) does make vintage zippers
>The reply from the NY office was something along the lines of "we don't sell >to private consumers" :/
>anyone know of a company that can order some?
Rather depends on how many (or how few) they will sell me.
I have tried talking to Tag...
The front part on the High Street was built about 1565 -1575. The newer bit at the back was built more recently in about 1675 as a wheelwright's workshop and converted into dwelling space in about 1948 - 1952.
Ceilings tend to be a little bit low, doorways more so. Windows are small & so the...
Anyone able to identify this zipper ?
Anyone know this zipper ? It is on an RAF flight suit (don't know the vintage).
Is there a general repository of zipper wisdom ? I can't help
feeling that there should be, and my google-fu is too weak to find it :-)
(I have posted a similar...
Newcomer here
Hi There.
I found this group whilst lookin for information on Irvin flying jackets.
I am in Hertfordshire Uk and am interested in classic clothing of all kinds
- which is just as well as my wife Gwen & I repair and alter "stuff" to keep
a roof over our heads. :-)
I have...
Snap &c
Thanks for the info.
The jacket does not actually belong to me - I am just stuck with it because the owner hasn't collected it since we replaced the zip for him :)
However he was pretty convinced of its authenticity and seems to be something of a collector - its not by any means...
