Hello Forum Members,

I hope this post finds you well. I have been a part of this community for a while and have always appreciated the valuable advice and recommendations shared here. Today, I find myself in need of some expertise and would greatly appreciate your input.

I recently acquired a high-quality Horsehide Leather jacket, and I am looking for a skilled leather specialist who can perform some alterations on the sleeves. After researching within our forum, I learned that Dena from Greatleather.com comes highly recommended. However, I reached out to her, and unfortunately, she is currently unable to take on Horsehide Leather alterations due to the weight of the hide and her inability to work with them at this time.

Given the exceptional craftsmanship required for this task, I am reaching out to the community for recommendations on other reputable leather specialists who might be able to assist me with the sleeve alteration on my prized 3K Leather jacket. The jacket holds significant sentimental value for me, and I want to ensure that it is in the best hands possible for the alterations.

If any of you have had positive experiences with other leather specialists, or if you know of someone who is known for their expertise in working with Horsehide Leather, please share their contact information or direct me to where I can find more details.

Your assistance and insights are highly valued, and I look forward to hearing from those who have had successful experiences with leather specialists capable of handling such intricate alterations.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

In the US, Johnson in SF and Zoltan in Berkeley come highly recommended.

In the UK, you could have Aero take a look at it.

In Europe, Will knows a workshop in Poland.

Joanna from Andy Fashion is a magician, I did three jackets there. No complaints. This year I will do two more - taking in billowy pleated sleeves in 80's Golden Bear suede trucker and a major re-stitching of a Wolf with thread rot.
Got my fingers crossed. It's a rather low value jacket for the first try, but still high hopes.
I understand how they will make the waist narrower, but I don't know how they are planning to make the chest width and the sleeve width wider. But they said it's no problem.

I must say that it is (at the very least) a bit unusual that OP got his “3k” “Holy Grail of Leather” in the past three weeks and already needs it altered. Surely at that point it’s better to return (or, if a manufacturing flaw, to get it fixed by the vendor).

I’m surprised Deena couldn’t assist.

She posted on here about suffering an affliction that leaves her unable to do sewing work especially on heavy hides. I pray she has a swift and complete recovery.

Thanks for that. I appreciate your kind reply! I am doing therapy and seem to be improving. Handling the heavy jackets and all the maneuverings it takes, turning sleeves inside out, etc-raising my arm to turn the stiff hand wheel on the heavy machine, just makes me hurt! But thankfully it's getting easier. One of these days I'll be posting to send thing on!!
Best regards to all:) Dena

Steve, if you find someone who can help you please let me know. I would love to have someone to send folks to that need the heavy work and there's certainly enough work to go around. If you don't have any luck, please contact me in say 6 weeks? I'm optimistic I'll be back in full swing soon.

As mentioned, JL. Who is the maker of the jacket?

This whole situation has been a bit weird. The guy bought this jacket in a size that didn’t work and instead of returning has immediately decided to get it altered.

Mind you, he’s now been topped by the guy who just ordered a jacket from Japan, including requesting custom alterations, then made a thread here asking if the jacket will be any good after dropping four figures.

Dena - first - very thankful you are doing therapy and starting to feel better. Praying for a full recovery, which I know does take time.

As to an alternative, I know this shop very well...

However there's a few catches here. It's a Amish shop in Northern Iowa, hence, no phone, no email and you have to bring items there in person. Works for me, but still a 3-hour trip each way.
