I haven’t had a chance to wear my Territory in a real deluge yet, but I assume it would be good, as long as wind didn‘t blow water in the vents.

I've always been curious how much water would actually come in the small grommet vents, such as the one Akubra uses, in a hard rain. I've always avoided vented hats for fear they would leak badly. Anyone have actual experience with this that they would share?

The guy in the video with the garden hose didn’t take in any significant water through the vents, but there was no significant wind.

I clicked the link and it just went to You tube and not the specific video. When you said "guy... with the garden hose", I think I know exactly the video you meant.

Here's another link.

That’s the one. I’m not sure what’s going on with the video link. YouTube may have tinkered with something.

I was somewhat mistaken about the water coming straight down.

But in any event, his head stayed relatively dry.

Thank y'all for the responses and for the video link, I enjoyed it! He mentioned several times getting "sprayed" through the vents, which makes sense based on the angle. And I had to laugh when the little one got the "horizontal rain" involved! :D

Even some older cheap hats performed well in rain.
This old thing is a 1972-1973 Circle C Brand. I wore it as I guided in Colorado up between Creede and Lake City. It was rained on and snowed on many times and never leaked through. The sweat band rotted and the hat is loose but not floppy. I can not remember how much I paid but it was affordable to a 9th grader.

There hasn't been sunshine in maybe two weeks. I would have expected a lot more action in this thread because of that (so maybe it's just too depressing to post wet hats?)

Had to do a walk-through on a misting morning in my Major Moore Buckaroo.

One good thing about wet hats is you can fine tune the shape of the crown and/or brim.

Cant figure out exactly where to post this, so maybe we can expand this thread to include "Pictures of how hats can survive the elements lol.

Found this Hard case American Tourister Hat Box recently... Figured a good case might keep my Labrador from stepping or sitting on a hat in the back of the Tahoe. It will handle any hat I have and is thick enough that I can stack two hats at a time in it. even had two sets of keys and is in great shape. Its the 16" diameter model and is just under 7" deep. They also made these in 17" and 18" diameters if anyone has bigger hats. (theres actually a 17" one on ebay right now but its got a bit of wear on the inside). Just need to leave this one open and air it out a bit

In storage I actually have a couple of suitcases my parents had that are exactly the same style and color... As a kid I remember driving into Knoxville Tn with Mom to the S&H green Stamp store to pick them up sometime in the mid 60's.

I also have a slightly newer extra wide briefcase version. those things are absolutely bulletproof. Guess Ive got a full set now

(And no... the hat didnt come inside it lol)

The dog and I went over for a Vet appointment today and got caught one heck of a downpour.... Dog soaked, Im Soaked, and the Hemp Stratoliner got soaked. The Labrador was dry as soon as he shook off, the Hemp Stratoliner took about 15 min to look semi normal, and Im still wet. lol. It was a real toad-soaker rain squall, Ind I was really impressed with how the hemp handled it. Pic is about 20 min later and you can just see a bit of dampness on the brim. Note that when dry the ribbon and edge binding are the same color. You can see that the edge binding is still wet . If anything, the hat got a hair firmer when wet. Think its going to be a good summer thunderstorm hat.
