Up for sale we have quite a nice find - a 1940s era navy wool short wool work jacket. A beautiful example of utility and style that has inspired countless modern reproduction and revitalization in contemporary fashion.

Key features of this slice of history -

-Shorter length: a practical design favored for ease of movement and layering. Beautiful timeless cut on this one

-Cinch-back design - both adjustable waist cinches on the back intact (with some patina that should be able to be cleaned off)

-Heavy wool construction - this jacket stands out for its heavier weight wool as compared to other jackets from this era I've handled. Wool jackets were often sold by weight during this Golden Age of workwear, and this was no doubt a quality garment made for working.

Minimalist yet beautiful 1940s details - three front pockets as well as sleeve cinches (all original buttons remain)

Beautiful cotton flannel 1940s lining, with some damage as pictured. Lining is overall good, and could probably be patched up. The sleeves are lined with more of a drill-like fabric, and is in mostly good condition.

There are two notable repairs - both which look quite old and sturdy - notably on the rear right shoulder and the underside of the left arm sleeve. Again, they look and feel like they were done a while back, and feel quite sturdy. Further, there is some distressing at the collar, but it does not go all the way through, The underside of the collar is clean.

Dating this jacket to the 1940s is a result of accounting for all these features, (lining, felled wool seams, 1940s era lining, sleeve and waist cinches, etc.). The main zipper looks to be a replacement, but is a Talon and works well. The original zipper might've actually looked similar to this replacement.

Authentic wool jackets from this era are increasingly scarce, as most were worn to near destruction and discarded. Reproductions from premium companies now pay homage to these jackets, but nothing compares to owning an original piece of history. This jacket embodies the resilience and practicality of the era, combined with the enduring style that has kept it relevant in modern fashion.

This gem would pair wonderfully with high-waisted trousers, denim, or any number of vintage or even modern inspired outfits.

There is no size tag, so please refer to the measurement pictured. Please allow a small degree of discrepancy due to human error.

Please note that I am not a professional clothier, but have significant research and handling into mid-20th century American workwear. If you have any questions, please reach out. Price is $225 shipped in the continental U.S., PayPal Friends & Family.
