More than 2,100 bombs from World War II have been found on the outskirts of Köthen during a routine building site review, police in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt reported on Wednesday.

I once talked to my friends Dad who was in the 318th BG. He was a Ball turret gunner in a B-17. He visited Germany after the war and spoke to some of the people who's cities he bombed. He defininately did not tell him he was a Bomber Crewman. Bomber Crewmen did not live long when captured by civilians. He said the locals said the bombs did not make that whistling sound we hear in the movies. The sound they reported made a swishing sound.

That was a great series I remember watching that on a UHF station (Does THAT date me ?).

the possibility that one could be working construction and just happen to hit a bomb. It's a wee bit discomforting.

A massive german bomb was exploded late last year close to where I live in Bow, East London. Just along side the canal in Pudding Lane.

We still live with the legacy of WW2...

hi guys - i live in bremen which was heavily bombed through the whole war and destroyed by some 60 percent completeley. the whole new town on the western side of the river was wiped out; my dad remembered standing at the river bed looking far into the country - where years ago a whole city part was standing. bomb excavation is daily business on all construction sites over here today. but you can find it even worse: east of berlin there is a very small region called "seelower höhen" where the russians beaten the hell out of the german army's leftovers - the whole region is ammunition invested, you cannot stick a shovel into the earth without extracting ammuntion, gear and bones. if you park your car sideways it takes 3 minutes for the police to come: they suspect anyone to dig the ground for this deadly and extremly dangerous "heritage". really morbid and gruesome.

Danger UXB was a fabulous series. It always had you sitting on the edge of your seat during a de-fusing scene. Buried bombs still show up in American Civil War battlefields. I recall about 10 years ago a collector accidentally blew himself up with a 136 year old shell from Gettysburg.
