WW2 Impressions Daisy Mae hat sizing

Hello all,
Does anyone have experience with WW2 Impressions Daisy Mae denim hats? I bought one in 7 1/2, and it is huge on me coming in at 24" around the inside. The next size down (7 1/4) is supposed to be 22.8". I'm right in the middle. My melon measures 23" around. Here is the dilemma: how much does the hat really shrink? Can I get the 24" down to 23? Or do I try and squeeze into the 22.8 with the hopes it wont shrink up on me?
