Three years after I posted about disposing of my father's WW II memorabilia, I've finally gotten to it. This little pennant fell out of his scrap book:
Apparently the German military used these to mark the boundary or a safe path through mine fields or areas where poison gas was used.
The "what is it ?" was quickly answered; however, I was surprised at how many are available on EBay from one European seller. I sure hope they're not contemporary and he hasn't been out in the woods collecting them.
This is poignant reminder of some memories that should remain buried.
