WTB: Pegasus Safari Jacket

Hello All,

I have wanted a Pegasus Safari jacket for a long time but am a little unsure of buying one brand new given the reputation of their HH (chips quickly) and price.

I am hoping one you good gents will have one in my size that you would like to send to a new home. I usually wear a Size 46 (US) but can sometimes fit in to a size 44 as well.

The pegasus safari is a very nice coat. However, I was not aware of the "chip quickly" leather.

Neither was I. many on this forum however have shared their experiences with it. I have a Pegasus long coat and it does show uneven wear to the topcoat as pointed out by many here. Would love to hear of your experiences with Pegasus. Perhaps things have changed now that they claim to have moved to Shinki?

Ive owned a Pegasus D Pocket HH for some time ( in antique brown) and haven’t noticed chipping per say. The typical forearm contact points do show some wear, but that seems typical of other jackets I wear. The Pegasus is a very good quality garment……but I’d sure like to give the Shinki a shot as I’ve never owned one!

I love Pegasus. However, I not very excited about Shinki. I think is lots of hype with that leather company. Please keep us posted.

I've owned a few horsehide Pegasus jackets. The "quick to chip" character belonged to the horsehide they used before they switched to Shinki. I was not a fan, but purchased anyway because of the other strong points their jackets posses.

My most recent jacket from them was delivered last year and is Shinki - the first Shinki jacket I've ever owned. It's still much quicker wearing than I'm used to (my first nice jackets were Vanson and Lost Worlds, both known for taking a long time to develop wear or patina), but doesn't "chip."

To my understanding, there's a lot of variation amongst Shinki hides, so you're painting with a broad brush if you go with "shinki is shinki is shinki." That said, while I think the Shinki on my most recent Pegasus is nice and a vast improvement on their older horsehide, it's still not something I'd go out of my way to obtain or pay much of a premium for, because of my bias favoring leather that is not so quick to show wear.

The main draw for going w/Pegaus, for me anyways, is their designs, which are simultaneously distinctive but still evocative of classic historical patterns/styles. The Pegasus D pocket I currently have, while not perfect, is overall probably the best looking leather jacket I've ever owned.

Totally agree with you. Shinki Hikaku Is a company that produces nice leather. However, as I mentioned before, the company is a little overhype. Personally, I tend to see many aspects when I select a leather jacket. Pegasus like thedi have pleasant designs based that mirrors older proven styles.

I agree. Pegasus jackets/coats display remarkable attention to detail and design acuity. The Gangster coat has a functional half belt with a center pleat, something rarely seen outside the world of pure bespoke in the sartorial world.

For uneven wear on the leather, I dab a little bit of Saphir Medaille D'Or on the affected area. Seems to work quite well and does not rub off easily.
