wrongly placed pocket on my Highwayman!

:( Received my Aero Highwayman back from Scotland on Monday having returned it to have an internal pocket put in. I was very disappointed and quite upset, the pocket was placed on the same side as the front pocket! I guess it was my fault as I did not state which side it was to be placed and unless requested other-wise Aero always place it on the left side as most people are right handed. To be honest that never occurred to me as I cannot see what difference it would make, I can take out my wallet/mobile just as easily with my left hand as with my right! I simply never imagined Aero would put an internal pocket right underneath an outer pocket. The result is a noticeable bulge and a feeling of in-balance and that is without anything in the pocket/s. I have emailed Holly expressing my dissatisfaction and requesting it be put right (at my expense) or to trade in for a remake (yes, I am that unhappy). That was Tuesday she has not replied yet.
The jacket pocket is the type fitted in the leather facing. The jacket is FQHH.
What do you think? Should I be annoyed with myself or do you think Aero have some responsibility? And what would you do in such a situation?

Thanks
Mark:mad:

it is normally placed on the left side unless you request otherwise
Alexander Leathers and most other manufacturers use the same placement
you can ask them nicely about having it switched

It usually takes Holly a 48 hour turnaround to get back to emails - the sheer weight of correspondence means that keeping up with it is a task of Sisyphean proportions.
As far as your pocket query is concerned, I've never had a problem with having an inside pocked under the breast pocket - I have one on each side on one jacket and never use the right-hand side one because, surprise, surprise, I'm a righty. The one thing you'll find, though, is that that having the two pockets 'together' stops the inside pocket shining through.
Talk to Holly, but to me it's a new jacket and hasn't had a chance to 'relax' or mould to your body shape. How does the rest of it fit? Pics are always helpful.

Why don't we hear what Aero has to say, first?

Personally, if it was something that is easily mendable like an inside pocket placement - and of this much concern to me - I definitely would try to have the jacket sent back and done the way I believe is correct - be it on my expense or the manufacturers. Truth of the matter is, these jackets cost helluva lot and I think we're in the right to expect them to be nothing less than perfect. I've requested sleeve zippers to be placed on the outside of the sleeves on the jacket I've just received and I have to admit I'm entirely unhappy with such a choice but only I am to be blamed for that. Unfortunately, this mistake I've made cannot be fixed. Not easily, at least, as I'm guessing they'd have to replace entire half of sleeve...

How does Aero have any responsibility in this situation..?
Most people are right handed..so if you didn't make a request of which side..how would they have known that you wanted an inside pocket most usually positioned for a left handed customer..??

Come to think of it, I'd be more likely to be surprised/irritated if I received a jacket with the inside pocket on the right hand side...

I know how disappointing it can be to open that newly arrived box with what you think is going to be the perfect jacket, and discover it isn't quite what you had imagined. But I'd just like to mention, there are some, me included, that actually prefer having the interior pocket on the same side as the external chest pocket. I actually requested the interior pocket on the left when specifying the options on both my Aero jackets. The reason, from my experience, is that it hides the inherent outline of the interior chest pocket behind the exterior pocket. And there's also the right hander convenience. And I rarely use the exterior pocket, if ever, and the unbalanced issue of using both pockets at the same time isn't really a problem. So there are advantages. And I've seen that many others have had the same experience over the years and come to the same conclusion. I would think that, unless one specifically designates where the interior pocket should go, it would seem a reasonable placement decision by the folks at Aero. Just my humble opinion.

Yep.

All of my jackets have the inside pocket on the left side of the jacket, even with an outside pocket on the same side. Never had a problem with that placement.

+1 to that!

On top of it being normal it really has no influence on anything whatsoever!
I have the same setup on a couple jackets and it never showed through or bothered me in anyway.

I could understand it being annoying if you are left handed, but then it was your responsibility to ask for it to be on the other side.

TBH, most jackets has the pocket on the left side or both sides. It kind of common practice I think. Since you didn't tell Aero what you want, I don't think it is their fault, and the only one you can blame is yourself...

I am left handed and since I've lived all my life with the left inside pocket on coats/jackets I'd find it bothersome if it was located on the right. I've got a few cloth jackets with inside pockets on both sides and out of habit I find that I only use that left side.

Yeah while it sounds like you are very upset, I don't think it will be an issue at all. Just think about all the cafe racers etc out there.

Mine has 2 chest pockets as is usual and 1 inside pocket.....it doesn't make any difference at all, was the same with my AL Roadster and again the same with my Detroit (Bootlegger).

I really really don't think its going to be an issue.

My Johnson Leathers N-200 came with the inside pocket on the left side behind the exterior pocket.

Hi guys

Wow..never expected so many replies so quick (posted thread last night, now 7.20 a.m!), thanks. It's kind of reassuring so many of you do not have issue with pocket placement of the kind I have issue with.
I should have mentioned the jacket is not new. I purchased it new 3 months ago. It was Holly's advice then not to have an inside pocket so I went with that. However, it drove me mad having no where to store my stuff so I sent it up to have the work done (along with storm cuffs to be fitted, turned out to next to useless though!). Yes, my fault I guess, but I still am less than impressed with the end result, a bulge clearly visible and a crease/fold running from the collar past the pocket as a result of that bulge.
I would love to post pics but have failed to master the skills of doing so despite many attempts and another FL member helping me!
Just to say I have always had great service fro Aero and Holly in-particular and am polite at all times when emailing with her. It must be said though I have detected a slight irritation in her last email!

Well my Aero 30s half-belt is clearly an exception to the rule since the inside pocket is on the right (and, of course, the outside breast pocket is on the left ) --hence no imbalance at all. This was a standard sale jacket, the pockets were not so placed at my request. Although I am right-handed I don't have to have the dexterity of a circus contortionist in order to fish stuff out of the inside pocket.....
This is clearly an issue for you -so get it changed.

Rest assured I'm sure Aero will fix it .. they are very good at resolving this sort of thing and would in no way have intended to cause any frustration or annoyance. As many have said, if it irks that much speak to them, send it back and get it sorted.
