Writing or Stationery Box?

Just arrived home with what I've been told is a stationery box ... it looks quite art-deco and as such I snatched it up at a local garage sale. Any thoughts or ideas as to its age, etc. ... thanks.

Inside dimensions are: 13-5/8 x 9-1/8"

Actually, two stacks of notepaper or one of notepaper and one of folded cards and envelopes. It wouldn't be 8-1/2 x 11 sheets. And I'd guess it's from the 50's.
