I am looking at different wool and tweed linings. I have noticed that some have a very tight weave, while others have a looser or more open weave. For an outer layer, I would prefer a tighter weave to keep out the rain and wind. But I cannot decide which is warmer for a liner.
I am tempted to say that the open weave is warmer. All of my thick sweaters have an open weave. And, when comparing a 19 oz. open weave tweed to a 21 oz. tight weave, the 19 oz. actually seems much warmer. In fact, I believe that the 19 oz. tweed would be too hot as a liner, whereas I am not quite convinced that the tight weave 21 oz. would be.
Any thoughts on wool weave and warmth?
