It has been a long time coming and the Hoosiers (not the hat!) are quite tickled pink today. For so many years we were Bears fans due to proximity and when the Irsays broke Baltimore's heart, we became instant Colt fans. There aren't too many "men" like Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith. There aren't too many men like Peyton Manning and Rex Grossman, either.

Ahhh, the great Midwest! Basketball, errr, Football at its best.

How'd you like that weather?

New Orleans was supporting the Colts big time :
Petyon Manning, and Reggie Wayne are both from New Orleans
Joseph Addai and Booger MacFarland are Tigers

Chicago fans were downright ugly to Saints' fans two weeks ago, and it wasn't just a few individuals. It was widespread and vicious throughout Soldier Field, and in the parking lots. Doing an interview on television, a couple of ladies had to literally push Bears' fans out from between themselves and the camera, as well. Not to mention the contemptuous Katrina insults inside the stadium.

Tony Dungy is a good man, he deserved this.

It's a sports thing

Yeah, people in Chicago are generally nice, but when it comes to sports...don't expect a warm welcome. It's engrained into our genes, be mean to opposing fans. In Chicago, either you're a Bears fan or you can leave town. Whatever you saw was the nice side. You should see how we act around Packer fans.

There is no place for such behavior in sport-on or off the field-and as a
Chicagoan and Bears fan, this conduct disgusts me. Chicago fans also
tend to turn on the team; equally inappropriate and quite obnoxious.

The Colts deserved this win, and congratulations.

First let me say how much I hate football (I'm more of a baseball girl).

But I watched the Super Bowl. I can honestly say that was the most football I've ever watched in my entire life (Lord help me if my kids decide they want to be the next Peyton Manning)! I'm happy for the Colts, but I wish Da Bears would have gotten their heads on straight.

*sigh* As with the Chicago teams I like the most (go Cubbies), I suppose there is always next year.

For what it's worth, the Puppy Bowl III on Animal Planet was much more entertaining :p

Yes, I very much dislike football. I see no point to it besides a bunch of sweaty grown men running into each other, rolling around on the ground, and smacking each other's behinds on occasion. ;)

I've always liked Archie Manning, but BOY, he really pulled a rock when he advised Eli to go to New Yawk. Should have stuck with the Chargers, although Tiki Barber has been good, imagine how much better Eli would be with the Chargers and L. T. taking the pressure off of him.

Yeah, I agree. That's why I watch college football ;) . I go to UT, which means I pretty much have to watch football. I've definitely come to appreciate the game more since coming to Austin.

As far as the Super Bowl goes, I desperately wanted the Chargers to get to play. They had a superb season, and Ladanian Tomlinson is amazing. My dad's from San Diego, and he has great team loyalty for the Chargers, which I've somewhat inherited. And let me tell you, besides a stint in the late '70s and early '80s with Dan Fouts and Air Coryell, being a Chargers fan has been a daunting task.

Surprisingly i actually enjoyed the game. I think the adverse weather conditions made for a better game. We need a superbowl outdoors in the north soon. See how the teams deal with -20 celcius and windy. boo hoo, it's too cold for my hands.

As for the fans. Well, one of my major issues with US sports are that the fans are not hostile enough towards opposition fans or the referees. Here at Purdue, and in many other towns i'm sure, there is a climate of "be a good host" and "be welcoming to the opponents". I disagree entirely with this mindset. The opposition team should be greeted by a host of booing and jeering home fans when they arrive. This verbal abuse should not dissipate until they leave town. Thereby the opposition will not play as well because they will be psychologically traumatised, and there is a greater likelihood of a victory for the home team.

Sports is about winning. Anything short of physical violence or racism etc. should be used against the opposition. Referees should not be respected by the fans: they are there to make you lose. All of the decisions they make against your team are wrong, and all they make against the opposition are right, and the punishments not harsh enough. This is a simple fact of sports.

Having said that, i don't care enough about any American sports to get interested enough to become a real fan, though the relatively non-stop nature of basketball is intrigueing to a lifelong soccer player.

And yes, in Indiana, Colts fans are unbearable right now.

I'd like basketball if it weren't for the classless boors who play it. With a few exceptions (Steve Nash comes to mind, and I'm sure there are several others), they seem to all be a bunch of spoiled children. That's probably most of major league sports, though.

Whooo! Puppy Bowl. So cute. anyways on to buisness.

I think that being in Chicago, we have a different set of believs and values from people in Miami, Chattanooga, Manhattan, and all other cities in the world. And being the greatest city in the world, we have the greatest sports teams in the world. So, as you can see, when an inferior teams fans come into our city, we'll naturally be a little agro.

I agree. When people are complaining about how they're only being paid $1,000,000 to play a game, I think that's rediculous.
