Wimpy Brims?

My hat rack seems to be dominated by a class of lids I don't see mentioned much in the Lounge - those with brims wider than 2" but narrower than 2 1/2".

I just wonder whether these are too "moderate" to leave much of an impression. Guys who want the hipness of the stingy or the bravado of a wide brim - does this type hat say anything to you or is it just a "Wimpy Brim"?

I like a good 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inch brim.
my champ and lee have these dimensions and they work well with my face shape.

This my favourite size brim width actually. All three of my favourite Borsalinos have brims in this range.Seems to me a perfect size.

Some people, like myself, can't carry off a wider brim. I look 12 in anything over 2 1/2 inches! Very dorky. Very, very dorky.

So, I wouldn't classify these brims as 'wimpy', per se; more like..."stylishly...brief".

Well put my good man!! I look very dorky in anything UNDER that 2" width.
So i would say that the 2" to 2-1/2" is just right!

I would think the word "moderate" is closer to the truth of these hats. I see that size more and more. Some folks don't want to look like hipsters, many can't or won't wear longer brims, which they may feel makes them look like they are wearing a cowboy hat or maybe just a bit too much like Phantom of the Opera.

That is a good in-between size that fits most people. Then, the crown can be adjusted to fit the face.

I like the 2 1/2" best, it's the longest without really being a wide brim.

I like that brim range too. I would say my favorite brim size is about 2 1/4 inches. Anything over 2 1/2 or under 2" starts to make me look rather strange.

Wimpy, womply, wambly.

I find mysellf wearing the 2-inch brims more than any others. 1-7/8 are my usually my second choice. I have two 2-1/2 inch brims, I think they look okay on my skinny frame, but they feel HUGE on my head. Sometimes it feels like I'm wearing antlers.

Well!

:eusa_clap Nice to see the moderates finding their voice! (Shades of the midterm!)

Now I can reclassify the Wimpy Brim to be a very stingy stingy brim. See below:

Continuing the cartoon theme, I am posting from underneath a Disney hat – Disney New York, that is. Dove grey, unlined, narrow band, brim 2 3/16".

AFRAID OF LACK OF HEIGHT

The brim width concerns me less in what i will wear.It is the crown height

and taper that make or break the dimensions of a hat.

I agree with Weegee. The crown height is much more important for look and feel than the brim width. The Lounge in general has been just as excited when people post their high crown/short brim creations, as when the wide brims are shown. For an example, see all the replies to the "Here's to you Root" thread.

It's the low crown hats (under 5 1/2"?) that seem to fall flat here.

So, I think your premise that we don't care for the mid-size brims is incorrect.
