Why are people often saying, that denim-jackets have to be worn open??

Neither have I. I tend to avoid wearing a denim jacket that's too close to the colour of my jeans because I like buttoning mine up, just to avoid being too matchy-matchy, but I do that with most stuff I wear.

I was once arrested for wearing a buttoned denim jacket.
I once arrested a guy for wearing a buttoned denim jacket. Shortest probable cause affidavit ever: "Suspect was observed to be wearing a completely buttoned DENIM jacket." 'Nuff said. The assistant D.A.s were all tripping over themselves to see who would get to prosecute this one.......total slam dunk of a case!

In 40 years I have never heard that said.

Maybe, it's not around worldwide, but here in Germany, that's a typical phrase on all ages, as far as I can observe. That's, why I always wondered about. The people here can never bring an argument for this old phrase.

Wearing completely blue denim is another thing and that's of course easy to comprehend. Here, the most german adults just don't like to walk around again, as in primary-school in the damn 90's, when parents bought them only denim. ;)
But generally, I anyhow have got dark and black jeans, so I never really need to think about.

but since probably you have more jeans to rotate and lesser denim jacket to pair with, surely they will fade at different rate:)

I don't understand the expectation to conform to those sorts of rules surrounding fashion/style. If you want to wear it closed, wear it closed. If you want to wear it open, wear it open. They look good either way.

In this particular case you're cheating because you're wearing a Bell Bullitt and that helmet is just amazing. Nobody will notice the denim jacket

I have one too in shiny blue.

I've only got one denim jacket & I do tend to leave ot open unless I'm wearing another coat over it. I'm not following any fashion code or rule I just prefer it that way. I do like it's pretty white buttons when it's done up though.

I think it would be just as difficult to reproduce the distinctive look of the late 1970's as it would be to reproduce the distinctive look of the late 1930s. I mean, if you wanted to.
