Who makes decent 70s era leather car coats?

Trying to find some decent manufacturers of the style below. I guess they're usually referred to as 3/4 length classic leather car coats? I haven't seen anything on Aero's site and besides, they're a little pricey for me. Schott is nice but they don't make tall sizes in this style. Thanks

Johnson leathers California for one. It's a pretty generic design and many also-ran companies do them too. Also called a leather blazer in some places.

Magnoli Clothiers does a good one in goat - it's a copy of the one in the series Supernatural. Okay looking jacket regardless of the source.

There are quite a few of those around on ebay.

I picked one up in pristine condition given its age for about 35 bucks.

Yea, I do keep my eyes on Ebay. There are two things that bother me though.

It's hard to tell how thick and rugged a coat is on Ebay. I don't want a thin "buttery" coat. The other thing is most of the coats that are actually from the 70s are that reddish-brown color that remind me of my Dad's old recliner. I've heard that color referred to as whiskey but what ever you call it, I can't stand it.:) I'm looking for dark brown.

Listen Jack,

The next time you bring the old Pork Chop Express into San Francisco to see your old buddy Wang Chi, check out Johnson Leather on Polk and Golden Bear Sportswear on Potrero. That's if you're not too busy saving the world from evil sorcerers and Chinatown street gangs.

Perhaps you could find something in steerhide by Aero on Ebay, it won't be buttery thin and will probably be cheaper than horsehide as the steer dosen't seem to hold its price so well.

 Never been out there, but I plan on it some day.

Dav, what jacket are you wearing in your avatar?

Agreed. It's a shame as it really is an equally good hide. Certainly the reason for its eclipse by Aero's fqhh is not that it is in any way inferior.

You can certainly get an Aero that looks like this. My problem with them is they are so heavy. I won't wear a jacket that weighs more than 4 pounds and the longer Aeros weigh 6 or 7 pounds. I find them uncomfortable. But many others around here really dig the weight.

True... keep an eye out for the Field & Stream label in steerhide. Those are quality. Here's my cheapo find. Definitely not Aero quality, far from it. But decent thickness and pretty heavy for a non-moto jacket. The GF thinks I look like a word that starts with "P" and rhymes with imp. haha.

I've not used them, but some say that Pop's Leather are a economical alternative. Their Daniel looks to be along the lines of what you're looking for ... a 3/4 length single-breasted car coat. $380 made to your measurements. Again, as I've no personal experience with them, YMMV.

Good call!:eusa_clap I never heard of them. Lots of colors available, just gotta figure out the weights. I can actually drive to this place in about 5.5 hours. I'll keep you guys posted. Regardless of the style, the Pop's coat below looks impressive for a price of only $345, custom made to boot.

I have got three different leather jacket that fit the discription of a "car coat" and did not realize it :) I always associated the term "Car Coat with a womans coat, and not men's. I have learned something new today.

I like the marbled look of the hide in this picture. I think it is a nice looking coat, especially for the price. I also like how they offer different thermal lining options and even a concealed carry option!
Which coat is pictured?
