Who has an Aero Dustbowl??

There's the question: Who has one/Had one/Has Experience with them?

Can't tell that much about them on the Aero site, but the front has a little similarity to a 30's HB it seems. Just starting to think about one, not too serious yet. What's out thoughts on them?

There's a really nice Black/Cherry one on the Sale page that I can't keep my eye off of. There, that's my confession for tonight....

They're a good style, a variation on the more common Half-Belt. My very first Aero was a hybrid Blue Label jacket that was a Dust Bowl in the front, Sunburst in the back. I liked it, but it was too small on me, so I returned it. I have had a bunch of 50's half-belts in various sizes, and my Wayfarer is my current favorite 30's half-belt style, but the Dust Bowl is a nice style as well, a bit less stylish and more understated than the Wayfarer. I've only seen 1 or 2 for sale on eBay, so they must not be as common.

I have a dustbowl in natural cxl, but it arrived just before summer so I have only worn it a handful of times. I really like it though. I would say that it’s similar in fit to a 30’s half belt.

I wear mine a lot.I like the dip to the front of the jacket and a contrast develops along the seams on the back panels which is attractive.Some I have seen have gussets along the vertical back seams but mine doesn't have these.

To my understanding the gussets are Aero standard. They add a bit of ROM, but can look a bit sloppy with wear, therefore some people prefer to have them without gussets. I think if you buy from Thurston Bros they come without gussets, but I might be mistaken.

Dust bowl is fantastic. I love the back. Only thing I'd change and its kind of signature to the jacket is the hookless zip. Too many horror stories on the operation or more specifically, separation.

I certainly think it has a lot of potential. I liked it from the start and (even though I can’t be sure because I don’t have a pristine sample to compare with) it feels like it is already starting to darken somewhat.

It’s only my second CXL HH jacket, so I don’t have much to compare with, but it feels similar to brown CXL in terms of weight and stiffness.

I think the gussets are the norm, but as with everything Aero, ask Holly... Mine was made for me in 2014, lovely jacket. I opted for the Horween Bison which has a fabulous grain, and despite the bulk and being if anything a little thicker than FQHH felt more broken in from the off. The finish is sort of teacoreish.... not sure if Aero still offer it, it wasn't on the website as an option when I chose it at the factory, not sure if it ever was. FWIW, the gussets work great with mine, though Aero advised against them with a cxl steerhide as that's just too heavy for them to "work".

I opted to have a plain, non-yoke front with a zippered pocket like the regular 30s HB. (After which this is patterned - buy your prewar Aero size, not your post-war size.) The only thing I'd do differently in retrospect is I'd order the breast pocket like on a Bootlegger - bigger, makes it a seriously useful pocket rather than one that's more decorative than anything. The one interior pocket is plenty big for wallet and phone, though.

It did actually. Very comfortable to wear now but can still stand up on its own. But the softness gotta be in part because of the crazy heat wave we’ve experienced for the last two months (hottest summer in Sweden since they started to keep track sometime in the 19th century). It’ll probably become stiffer if temps ever drop.

We seem to all share the same addiction. Off season jacket wearing is made possible by air conditioning.
Marginal difference in color but what can you expect in a Swedish heat wave!!!!

I have one of the original sample Dustbowls from the grand unveiling of the new collection back in 2013. It's in seal mid-weight shinki with Forest of Ettrick tartan wool lining. As it was a test jacket, it came without a breast pocket, no front yoke and the back panels are stitched together rather than gusseted. Personally, I love the jacket as it's one of my go-to ones during spring and autumn.

When I received it, I was relieved about the fit. I was worried it might be short, but it covers the belt, and has a welcome front dip. The midweight leather is perfectly suited to this pattern, and makes it immediately comfortable.
As has been pointed out, the arms are a bit roomy but not more than many Aero models.
Overall, I feel good about it, except for the fact that I won't be able to wear it for some time, the temperature getting way too hot.
