If I really would like to try different bashes over the next week or so with my new hat, would you recommend removing the bash (changing it back to an open crown) at the end of the day so that the bash at that time, doesn't build a memory (for lack of better word)?

My experience is that, at least in the short run, a "memory" tends to be what was wet blocked or steamed in. If you dry shape the hat, it would probably take quite a while for a memory to develop. :)

For the record:

Yesterday I changed it to a diamond crease, but I didn't care for the feel of it. Today, I was trying to move the crease a little (It seemed to me it wasn't quite centered). I found that it definitely has a memory. Not like an elephants...closer to a rabbits (I crack myself up lol :eusa_doh: ). I've had the hat for 6 days now.

I keep looking at the Sydney hat and I'm seriously considering it. I think its a great looking lid. What bash do you have on it now?

New guy weighing in---

Hi guys, new member here. I've been following the Akubra Sydney posts for a few days, as this is the hat I didn't buy for myself recently. This is mostly because it looks so much like the Chrystie's hat my wife bought me back in 1986 (now a little small), and I don't think it would be a good move to replace it (why don't you wear that hat I bought you?...).

Anyway, I figured I would just lurk around for a little while and catch up on the threads before posting, but I got an email today that should interest Akubra Sydney yearners - it's on sale at noggintops, plus there's a coupon code (SWEET20), which puts the final price at 78 bucks. Hard to pass up if you're at all interested. I don't work for them, but I have bought a couple of hats from them with good results. I read the FAQ and I don't think this info is out of line, but if it is, please let me know.

I am gradually steaming and stretching my Chrystie's and it mostly fits now, although I don't think it is as nice as the Sydney. The hat I wound up buying is a Stetson Chatham in sage green - I was extremely happy with it until I learned about Art Fawcett's custom hats at the FL - esp. the Sportaire! My Stetson only wishes it could be a Sportaire when it grows up. By a strange coincidence, I have my next hat, a VS, all picked out....

Cheers, Carl
