Where to find a better, larger photograph?

Peter Hopkirk's The Great Game: The Struggle for Empire in Central Asia has, in duotone on its cover and also reproduced as black-and-white photograph within the body of the book, a photograph of a man in cold weather garb on a mountain top surveying the distance - telescope being supported by a leather-cased rifle.

Has anyone a source to obtain a better, larger photographic image online, or a copy of the photograph?

I did a quick search and the photographer is Sir Erich Teichman and the photo is entitled 'Scanning The Passes'. Most likely there is a book of his photographs available. -dc

Many thanks. I would have thought the photograph was Russian, because of the headgear.

Here is a period article about the death of Sir Eric Teichman at the hand of two 'yank' poachers on his English estate. Off topic, but interesting no? Pvt. George Smith was subsequently executed for Teichman's murder - on VE-Day, no less! http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,778290,00.html

So far I cannot find [online] any photographs by Teichman, nor can I find any photograph of that title. Tomorrow is another day, though.

Do you have the ability to scan a high quality copy of it to your computer? If not, you can try taking it to a print shop & seeing what they can do.

I wouldn't do take it to a print shop. The copyright of a photograph - and the photo was published, so it's obviously copyrighted - is valid for 70 years after the photographer's death. The print shop could be sued if it's found out that they copied it for you, and a reputable print shop would simply refuse the job outright, anyway.

Try the publishing house of the book, if they're still around. It's doubtful, but they may be of some assistance in your search for a copy of that image.
