What's the deal with this London Lounge, anyway?

I don't think it's wise to speak negatively of other forums, not that you necessarily are. They deal mainly with bespoke clothing arts, which, like any trade, has its own vocabulary and lingo. That's at least part of what you may be referring to. Anything beyond that, I can't and won't say.

Ooo, I sense secrets lurking...the kind of cautious confidentiality you'll find surrounding many arcane trades, which eventually becomes part of their mystique, whether there are actual secrets that need protecting or not. The code of the closed-mouthed craftsman who either trains one protegé or prefers that his craft die with him.

Like I said...ooo.

Or just people refusing to badmouth others...lest they be badmouthed themselves....

Plus, some of these gents 'may' be coming to next year's UK Lounge dinner/event, as they have much in common and plenty of knowledge and enthusiasm for their subject area. Plus the local London knowledge is good to have.

Just visited their boards for the first time. For most of my life my suits, jackets and shirts have been bespoke and occasionally made to mesure and I was quite happy to find this forum. Due to my size/build I've had little choice. For the dedicated period enthusiast with a little extra cash burning a hole in their pocket, there are a few tailors out there who will make a bench tailored suit in any style you like - quite authentic to the given period.

I have a tailor here in Boston who, due to my tastes and build, is quite anxious to make me clothing from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. I knew I would like him when I first visited his shop and there was a gorgeous crushed velvet smoking jacket with embroidered frog and olive closures on prominent display.

I can imagine visitors to this site receive strange impression of our discussions.
In fact, members have left this site due to our sartorially closed minded opinions. That and the fact some of us come off as snobs. :) ;)

Tone.

Well, whatever...I myself like to vary the flavor and idiom in my posts now and then, be colloquial or flip, kid, goof...whereas at other times I get quite earnest, formal, even grave.

I don't get the feeling the former mode of discourse would go over, over there. [bad]

Do tell....who is this tailor?

I like the London lounge. Frankly, I had never really noticed anything particularly odd about it. I invariably learn something new whenever I go there.
