What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

"Dating Daisy" via Amazon Prime Video.

An advertised rom-com that had few jokes and a broken romance that never got fixed. It's rare, (spoiler alert) but they left the ending open and I really, truly hope she doesn't except his proposal.

In most rom-coms, you root for the couple to end up together and, usually, it's the guy who's done the stupid things that caused the problems in the first place.

Here, I'm hoping that the woman declines his proposal because she doesn't deserve him and his life will be better without her. Not your average rom-com feeling.

A B-/C+ movie. Also, do all parents (these are in their late 50s / 60s) always have to be portrayed as out-of-touch / goofy / selfish? Are there any good parents out there or does Hollywood just have an anti-parent bias?

Despite a truly awful score, Navarro is mesmerizing as Rupert of Hentzau. Lewis Stone does a fine job. Alice Terry is quite decorative...

' Redemption: For robbing the Dead.' (2011)....a very pleasant surprise. A moving if unusual story with good acting, great cinematrography & a delightful score. The atmosphere in this movie often reminded me of Tommy Lee's 'The Homesman' (2014) which I loved.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madres. First time to watch it. It was good, but not one I'll bother watching again. Humphrey Bogart is, though, brilliant at portraying Fred Dobbs and his descent into madness.

Hail the Conquering Hero, with Eddie Bracken, Ella Raines, William Demarest, and many of the Sturges' gang. I counted at least three long, long tracking shots as the characters recited their lines while walking down the street. (IMDb has notes on this and The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and the hard work put in by the cameraman to set up and film the performances.) There were several other long takes of characters running though Sturges' wild dialogue; it sometimes felt like a filmed stage performance, emphasis on dialogue and almost no cuts in the shot.
The Marines looked like they had been the starting offensive line for USC before they enlisted, and Demarest at about 50 years of age looks like he could keep up with them in a fight.
Next time you watch it, look for the gigantic movie poster on the wall behind the train as it pulls out of the station.

A strange little film called The Dressmaker, with Kate Winslet. It's set in Australia in 1951 or so -- after Sunset Boulevard for sure, as Kate and two other characters go to "the pictures" to see it. An odd mixture of dark comedy and tragedy, but quite good, with a dynamite last scene that I won't quote so as not to spoil it for you.

I couldn't stand "Forrest Gump," but until now, thought I lived on my I-can't-stand-Forrest-Gump island of one - welcome to the island.

I did like "Bridge of Spies." Decent, not great, script. Beautifully filmed and I thought Hanks did an outstanding job.
