I think the final scene of Dr Strangelove with We'll Meet Again sung to a montage of H bombs exploding has got to be one of the greatest ever film endings.

I'm not sure I'd use the term appropriate for this one, but it is at least topical. My next door neighbor had this on a comedy album I think, might have been a 45. They're coming to take me away!!!

In my home town, they still do visitation, which a bunch of the family there also. Dad retired in 1984 and died in 2011, but there were still say 250 people showed up at visitation and the funeral. Nobody his age, except a couple of the neighbors, now 94 and 98, both WW2 vets.

"We'll Meet Again" seems to be a perennial favourite at times like this.

In the 1980s, Raffles Hotel in Singapore, which by then had been open for nearly 100 years, was closed down for a complete restoration and renovation. On the night before the hotel was closed, everyone gathered there for one last big party and the evening closed with everyone singing "We'll Meet Again".

And they did, several years later, when Raffles reopened for business, restored to its prewar elegance of the 1910s.

I have let my wife know that in addition to Amazing Grace (amen, Wide Brim) sung in the memorial service (and the officiating minister to preach from Ephesians 2:8 & 9), the bringing in and out of the coffin should be accompanied by a solo piper playing Skye Boat Song and Flowers of the Forest.

However, I won't be there to enjoy the singing and music...

I have already planned for loud Rock and Roll. Jackie Wilson Higher and Higher ( hopefully ),Bee Gees I started a Joke, Hollies He ain't Heavy He's My Brother, BJ Thomas, Queen, Heart, Janice Joplin and more. All those wonderful songs and music I grew up with. I will be there and will listen!
