It occurs to me, reading through various posts over the years here, that this is a very special place for all our members for a variety of reasons, some obvious and some not so obvious.

Recently, I came across some posts in "IF THE FEDORA LOUNGE WERE A REAL PLACE," that made it clear that some of our members are painfully shy in public. But 'here' they are freed of those inhibitions and can be themselves to express themselves to the friends they have made in here.
Hopefully, that growth in confidence among some will be extended to a point where they can physically join in and meet with their friends at an FL event.
Now isn't that pretty amazing?

And I dare say, that some who considers themselves 'nobodies' out in the cold harsh modern world, can consider themselves real 'somebodies' in here and feel proud of that. They feel respected and listened to, which is what they deserve, but maybe just don't feel they get in their own home/work lives.

We have members who are retired and maybe don't feel they get the respect that they should get for the years they have put into their community or country and there are others still of high school or college age, who again because of their age are looked down upon by older members of their communities [huh]

But.. in here, we treat all our members with the same respect and total inclusion, irrespective of their age, sex, nationality, creed, gender, religion, background or any other multitude of things that are devisive by others to separate and exclude.

This is what makes this corner bar of the WWW so special :eusa_clap

That's very true. I find myself in this situation a lot. Between here and the other board I frequent, I've contributed a great deal to conversation that I never would have out in the world before hand. And now most of my friends are online friends, and when we do meet and gather, I find it much easier to initiate and participate in conversations that I would not have.

The only thing wrong with this place are the folks driving up the cost of hats on eBay, leaving those of us poor "educators" out in the cold.:rage: :rage:

Can't have everything, I guess
. ;)

The draw for me is that coming here you don't have to be assaulted by a bunch of gomers on soap boxes futilly arguing about politics and trading childish insults.

What I love about this place is that I've made some wonderful friends through this forum, some of whom I've met, some of whom I haven't had the luxury of meeting yet but hope to.

A great bunch

On a personal note, I never belonged to any kind of computer group. (Hell! I'm kind of scared of it really) But I had a very sad and difficult year. When I was at a news stand and saw the Issue of "Classic Style" I bought it. Read about the site. Joined, and made some friends(especially you C.D:) ) I found a nice place with people who have a lot to share. They have the same things in common as I do. I must say. Thanks a lot you guys are a good group. I look forward everyday reading and write to you all :)
