What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Ok I stand corrected. Maybe I should look into vintage some more :)

Zips are YKK so it's probably from the 80s.

Definitely. We can putter through the vintage world together.

The Cooper I have coming may be from the 80s. I hope it looks half as good as yours.

I think our psyche is playing tricks on us when it comes to vintage. Objectively speaking, today's high-quality new item will probably be better and no worse than the equivalent from the past. Subjectively, that's another story.

But I’d add that the best of both worlds is closer to the no worse side of the equation.

I find there is a freedom in vintage jackets. You get what you get- no chance to tweak/ modify/ obsess on choices.
My vintage ones have scuffs, torn liners, mismatched hardware, replacement parts, etc. and they are better for it. It’s all part of the swagger.
My newer ones hang in the closet waiting for a “date night” which hasn’t happened in over a year. The vintage ones get worn to the grocery store, mechanic, etc. with no worries about getting banged up a bit through use.

Yes. A sort of trust that they have been there done that. Elder statesmen. They carry some level of gravitas.

I’ve definitely had paralysis from too many options for new. Not to mention 99% of the modern jackets I’m interested in are just repros of older styles. There’s some newer stuff like a lot of Thedi stuff I would get. Vintage inspired but also totally unique. Why not save some money, not worry about imperfections, and collect a piece of history while I’m at it and get a vintage?

I also like buying “gently used” from the classifieds.
Similar feeling of not being 100% controlling, but still in great shape, at a discount, and helping out fellow Loungers.
The >$1000 price tag sucks a lot of fun out of a jacket for me, makes it feel “precious”, and introduces some guilt that I don’t want in my life.

many thanks.
It’s an Aero Slim Fit Motorcycle Jacket aka Ridley with J106 style pocket setup, blackened brown Vicenza, brass hardware.
Awesome. You freaking nailed it. Come to think of it, every jacket I see you rocking fits really well. Guess you're one of those guys that can make any jacket look badass haha. Cheers brotha!

yes, it would be nice if it were like that. In fact, it's only because all of my jackets are made2measure.
And with m2m it's not that difficult to get well-fitting jackets ;)
