What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

I'm always nervous when getting leather jackets shipped in from abroad because norwegian customs always open them to check them out. If the boxes are small then there can be some damage done.

On an otherwise perfect jacket like that I wouldn't be able to live with it if it wasn't of my own making.

Best of luck getting it sorted.

Did you check if there was a cut in the plasticbag surrounding the jacket in the box? I guess accidents can happen and the damage can be done without the person noticing it.

Customs don’t care they are rough as hell from my experience if it’s been opened and inspected here in Australia at least they leave a letter and re-tape the box so you know it’s been opened and inspected.

Once I received something from overseas damaged it was obviously customs fault as the box included a letter saying it had been inspected, it hadn’t been re-boxed properly it was bouncing around loose hence it was broken when it arrived.

I've had this happen too many times to mention. I bought and sold watches internationally on a regular basis and they'd show up with cuts and bang marks in the leather and wooden boxes. I'm always weary of this when buying clothing.

He’s a good guy. I trust him and this won’t sour that. Just not sure what to do.

I'm usually not too fussy about grain matching on panels, but I guess the color will be pretty hard to emulate on a used jacket as the burgundy usually darkens really fast if you choose to swap out the damaged panel. But I'm sure they'll do a good job and you will have a story to tell :)

Thankfully it’s the underarm panel so it doesn’t have to be perfect. Matching the weight/grain as closely as possible will be the key. That may well be impossible as Horween batches are always unique.

*Pro-tip and I assume this community knows as much. Use a pen or pencil to open packing tape.

It will never be a perfect match. That I know. Trying to decide what to do. A total refund has been offered.
Bro, take that refund and save yourself from any further grief, I personally wouldn't be able to be happy with this jacket ever again if it were me. Throwing money at it for a repair could be added to the refund pile for a new one.

I have to get it fixed. It’s the best Aero I’ve ever owned. The mistake I made was trading it for something I thought I’d wear more and ultimately did not.

I hope you get it fixed soon as it looks incredibly good on you and the jacket looks like it was made for you!!
It was!
Send it back today. Any attempt at repairs has a chance of further devaluing a jacket that statistically speaking will be on someone elses shoulders by labor day.
Except no. Just like my Bates (which is 40 years old and took a world tour unscathed) I wanted this back as the trade I made turned out to be a poor decision. The two Aeros I’ve owned since haven’t been this good.

Cryin shame. I'd try to have the section of leather replaced by Aero hoping for a good match. I don't see how anything else would be a reliable fix.
HD

Seconded. Nothing short of replacing the entire leather panel can be done to fix this kind of damage. That's not a scratch or a scar, that's a gash and no amount of glue can fix it. @ton312 you could technically fill it with that Barge leather cement stuff but that's not a repair, that's just cosmetics and doesn't really solve the problem.

Sorry that’s bullshit if the person you bought this back from didn’t mention the obvious what look like to me to be knife cuts he’s taking the piss, blind Freddy would notice something like this and disclose it up front as part of the sale, at some point someone slashed this jacket with a knife or box cutter or similar if you ask me

Yeah... This.

Can you get a refund and order new same specs now or down the road?

I cannot imagine removing a sleeve and swapping a panel shipped to aero and back would be cheap. That would be the only place I would trust to do the job.

I’m curious to see what Denny suggests. Can’t be the first time they’ve seen it. Not sure how complex it would be. I don’t think the sleeve would need to come off but that might well be the case and if so...yeah that’s probably getting too expensive. I’m heartbroken and disappointed in many ways. This kind of hide is not a common occurrence
