My next splurge is looking to be Besame Red Velvet I hear nothing but good things about it. The packaging is perfect.

The tubes from Besame are small. I was surprised that the tube was much smaller than a drugstore or department store lipstick but I find it is lasting just as long. I just didn't want you to be disappointed when it arrived and was small in comparison with the price. YKWIM?

I love the Besame Red Velvet, yes the original tubes are tiny. They were supposed to have enlarged them but I have not seen the new sizes. I get the large tube that comes with the liner and lip brush. It is a full sized lipstick but the tube is not as pretty. I buy for the product, it is wonderful.

Drat! Did some research on MAC lip products, and everything contains either Tocopherol or Tocopheryl Acetate (different spellings, I know, but I'm lazy and not typing everything twice lol ), which is basically vitamin E from wheat/gluten - based sources.

Sorry, dmoran, will eventually get pics of the layering process you suggested...once I start wearing lipstick again, that is. I prefer not wearing it when I have a cold, as I tend to sneeze or cough into my elbow...which means that the lipstick ends up on my sweater and not my lips ;) lol

I wear Chanel Rouge Allure in Passion. I saw it on an ad once (years ago), bought it and stuck it in a drawer for a year or so, not having the confidence to wear it. Then I dragged it out and thought 'hey I'll have a go' et voila, the perfect shade of red that I now wear on an almost daily basis!

It's a gorgeous lipstick. It's so moisturising and has great depth of colour. I find MAC lipsticks to be far too drying for my lips - I have the Viva Glam 1 lipstick, but like I said, I find it too matte, and too drying for my lips!

I found teh perfect red at Body Shop many, many years ago. Now I don't recall what it was called, but it's moot anyway- when I wnet to buy it again, it was discontinued. :( Extremely annoying!

As per other comments, I too recommend Maybelline's new Superstay lipstick in Red Passion! I only got it today (after reading numerous excellent reviews), so I haven't tested it for a whole day, but I can say that I ate dinner, drank, wiped my mouth etc, and it did. not. budge., or fade, or crack, or smear- none of the issues one normally has with lipstick. This bodes very well indeed, I can't wait to see how it holds up for an entire day. Might have a hard time convincing the boy that it's smooch-proof, though :p

I noticed a tiny bit of wear at the inner corners of my mouth, but I remembered that I had reapplied foundation near those very places right before putting on the lipstick, so I'm sure that explains it. I think your lips really do have to be bone- dry and clean beforehand. It is drying but my lips definitely did't feel cracked or uncomfortable.

I will report back if it all goes drastically downhill, but at the moment I would unreservedly recommend this to anyone!

I have been wearing Clinique High Impact Lip Colour in Red-y To Wear recently. It's a great red shade that is very long lasting and doesn't dry my lips out. During the day I just wear it by itself, but I was at a party last night so slicked some LipCote over it. It lasted all night with no touch-ups despite plenty of drinks and nibbles and talking.

I just bought the Revlon Super Lustrous in "Fire and Ice" a couple of weeks ago, and it's quickly becoming my go-to daytime lipstick. It's a tad on the orange/coral side, but again, for daytime it's a nice step down from the rather dramatic blue-based reds I usually favor.

I snatched that one up several months ago and I agree with your description of the colour ;-) I also bought, from the same limited edition collection, from the 60's, demure, its my "i don't feel like wearing makeup fav".

A friend of mine bought a couple of Revlon lipsticks recently and is raving about them. There seem to be some nice red in their collection andthe price is very good so I think I shall try them out.

I really love Chanel Fire, it smells of roses and has a lovely sheen. I did have a deeper red by Estee Lauder called China Red but i seem to have misplaced that :(

Revlons ravish me red. It's Affordable, creamy, and a great red for my skintone, which is pale and pinkish, and I assumed I wouldn't find a good red for me.

No matter what type of red lipstick I use I always like using a brown "lipliner"(I just smudge eyeliner =P). So far my favorite is Revlon's "Really Red". It looks lovely even without my lip liner; it stays long and looks intense even after blotting.

I'm quite a Revlon devotee now; I never intended to become one, but their cheap prices have made me a loyal customer of theirs. I love their Matte "Really Red" and "In The Red", too.
(I also adore their Just Bitten lipstain in gothic!)

I've switched from MAC's Dubonnet in amplified creme to Hang Up Cremesheen when the temperatures rose above 0+C to Lady Bug Lustre when the temperatures rose above 18C. The lighter brighter red seems to suit me when I have a "tan"/not my jaundiced winter complexion. I find that the more color I have in my face, the less I like Revlon's Cheries In The Snow and the more I like the warmer Wine With Everything.

Regardless of whether I'm wearing red or pink, I've learnt that brighter, yellow based shades suit me better in mid Spring-early Fall.

My dad was supposed to get me that one and I was really excited about it but my dad didn't know that you're supposed to open those two-tube packages to check that what it says on the outside, is also what you'll find inside. Instead I got Love That Pink which is a nice yellow based pink that suits me quite well but I really wanted Fire And Ice. I'm a medium-dark olive.

Just discovered MAC Charred Red, just as it's been discontinude. its the perfect dark red- liek hangup but less purple and more red. I need to find a back-up!

Also- Chanel rouge Coco in Paris is a glorious pinky red- very vivid. This is on my list to pick up this week.
