What is your favorite aircraft of all time?

Has to be the Avro Lancaster, followed by the Hawker Typhoon, and the Sunderland Flying Boat.

I work in an office where we deal with military issues. New members of staff are always asked 'What's your favourite plane?' The best answer (from the only female in a team of middle-aged men) was 'Easyjet'!

The Me 262, without a doubt. My father took me to see one actually flying in the 1950s, and it was just achingly beautiful...

I'd have to vote for the same - I would love to see one in flight in person, but I settled for a YouTube video (modern film) which was really neat.

One of my favorite Italian aircraft is the Piaggio P.108, Italy's attempt at a four-engine bomber. Note the superficial resemblance to the B-17.

Probably more resembles the German Focke-Wulf Fw200 Condor, IMHO

Not that model, really. The dorsal "hump" and the waist gun positions, and use of a ventral gun turret on the P108 are very evocative of the B-17, both of which are absent on the FW200. The FW200 has the "bath tub" bombardier's/ventral gun position, P108 and B-17 both use the nose-cone. Tailplane and vertical stabilizer on the P108 are rounded, FW200 are squared. The Cant Z. 511 bears more fuselage resemblance to a FW200.

One of my favourite WWII aircraft is the Savoia-Marchetti SM79, but between its "hunchback", the triple-decker nose section on the P108, an interceptor that looks a bit like a Hurricane with twin engines, and a few other examples, the Italians made some distinctly wonky looking aircraft.

My favorite aircraft of all times:

My bird landing in a field in the FRG during a FTX with the 13th Attack Helicopter Battalion of the 3rd Infantry.

Just a touch partial to the Snake as I was a Crewchief, Tech Inspector and Phase Team Leader. Worked on several other ships, but I do love the AH-1 for lethality, power and general bad looking ship.

The Grumman Goose. I've got a thing for flying boats, and the Goose was the prettiest bird of the lot to my eyes.

When it comes to flying boats it's a toss-up between the Short Sunderland and the Kawanishi H8K "Emily"

Thanks Otter, I always thought the Snake had a bad attitude look to her too. In the air with a skilled pilot they could do a ballet that not many rotor winged aircraft could follow.

Bell P59 Ariacomet

This one is not really my all time favorite but a very historic aircraft that not many people know about. It was the USA's first fighter jet that was secretly being tested during WWII. The war ended before it actually saw combat. It is the Bell P59 Ariacomet. After this came the Lockheed P80 Shooting Star which was a much better aircraft.
