Thank you for the info, Bingo. I went to Duxford for some sort of anniversary airshow when I was a kid but don't recall what it was. At the time there wasn't a Lanc in flying condition. I knew the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was working on restoring one, and I assumed it must have been at Duxford. I've never seen one flying.............nice artwork on your jackets by the way. The Bettie Page doesn't look freehand though, how did you do it?

Shackelton

Only two flying Lancs in the world. One in Canada. One in England. This is based i think at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire. You can see it flying at Duxford air shows. or have a look at this. It flew over myself and the family earlier this year. Sorry about the 'whaaa!!' but it sounded lovely.

I think a few Whaas were in order! Fantastic luck on your part. I would love to see a Lancaster in flight. Always seemed to be in the wrong place when the Shackelton was over here!

Warbird Rides

Wow, I am so lucky to have flown in two B-25s, plus Texas Raider B-17, and many other WWII planes for free! Heck, I was even paid to do some of it. Those were the days. Almost got a ride in Dave Tallichet's B-24 over Salt Lake city, but he was called away on business, one of his guys flew with my boss the day before to take photos, I really wanted that one!

Thanks for your comment. I assure you, they are all hand painted. I did it the same way as the 'Incendiary blonde' one. Tracing it onto the jacket, then spending a long time building up the layers.
I recently sold that one. I'm going to start another over Christmas and put the blogs up as i go.

Yak 3U 460MPH

I love the Yak 3U replicas! Only one original Yak 3U was completed, powered by a Shvetsov ASh-82 14 cylinder engine. With so many Yak 11s around, which were based on the Yak 3, it was only natural to fit a Pratt & Whitney R1830 or R2000. This gives the owner P-51 speed down low on a T6 budget! They sell for between $300,000 and $500,000 depending on how refined they are. The R2000 was the transport engine, with fewer parts, more HP, longer times between overhauls, and less fuel consumption. Below is Steadfast, a new made Yak out of Rumania. Powered by an R2000, it develops around 1750HP, and is capable of speeds of 460 mph, a sock Yak 11 develops 700HP and tops out at 289MPH. There is another Yak 11 with a R2800 developing over 3000HP, it has come in 3rd twice at Reno! Not bad for a little trainer! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBS4jnlb6vI

My favorite would have to be the P80 shooting star, which saw some limited ground attack missions in Italy at the close of WW2. It soldiered on into the Korean War. It was a slick looking fighter-bomber.

Clevland F-80s

Wow, I did not know that. I thought the only U.S. jet during the war was the P-59, and it only in a stateside role.

Two additional YP-80A fighters were sent to England. A crash grounded all YP-80As, and none saw any combat. I was lucky enough to know Bill Gates, [no a different Bill]. He raced a P-80 at Cleveland during the 1947 closed course race, he came in forth at 484.878MPH. Lt. Col. Pedit was first in a specially modified P-80 at 500.704MPH.

I have to say Douglas DC-3 / C47 Dakota since my father used to own one.
Other than that, Macchi-Castoldi MC.72 is my epitome of design and beauty and Sukhoi SU-27 of the modern era ever since I saw it in person.

It was the first photo of C47 I found online. He bought the old Yugoslav airplane from 63 Paratrooper Division he was part of; "Black Swan" Dakota C47
It was destroyed in Croatian war later on; this one is his sibling, still standing in front of old underground military airport Zeljava

The airport in Reading Pennsylvania is home to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. In June, the weekend closest to D-Day, they host "World War II days". You can tour a C-47 that was used in the Berlin airlift (for a small fee that goes toward restoration). It is an impressive aircraft.
