A Borsalino Bellagio that makes me look like Chico Marx. I just can't part with it, though, because it's a beautiful navy blue and is as soft as a baby's bum (as Mom used to say).
I wish I had my grandfather's hat... my fur felt hats were all picked up in 2016... except one delivered today. All my other hats are baseball caps and a Columbia Sportswear camo cold weather, modern "deerhunter" clone type of hat complete with the pull down ear flaps.
I have a Cuenca weave paja toquilla (straw) hat I picked up on my first visit to Ecuador in 2012.
Of my current hats, a Stetson "Napa" panama from about 2002/2003, and several Akubras (Stockman, Cattleman, Stylemaster) from around 2006/2007. I recently sold a Stetson Temple dating back to 2001, which had been the oldest one in the rotation.
But I also have a box of hats from the hat collection I had back in the late sixties/early seventies when I was a teenager. They're two sizes too small for me now, but I can't part with them. Pics of a couple of Stetsons from 1968 (when I did a class report on hats, and my dad took pictures of me to use as visual aids - and laugh-getters):
Not my oldest hat, but rather the felt hat that I have kept longest.
Got an old abused Beaver Brand cowboy hat on a hunting trip in 1978/1979. My buddy was tossing it and my head was cold. There was damage in several places so I reshaped it and trimmed the brim. Still wear it at times.
The one I've owned the longest is this no-name model from about 1994:
"Casablanca" is what it reads on the sweatband. It started life at Meyer's as a wide-ribbon fedora. I had them replace that ribbon with the "belt" you see here. It's a fairly stiff, inexpensive felt hat -- as I recall it retailed for about $50 when a new Stetson Temple was $75-80. I've had Mike Miller of Northwest Hats do up a hat modeled on it. I may give this one away, or keep it as a beater.
