New to me J.C. Penney Marathon, surprisingly sold to me by @DonR.

Great hat with generous proportions and a 6-ply, which is unusual for my collection.

I'll try to get some pix for the Marathon thread when I get some sunshine (probably April).

Thanks, Don!

The oldest "bought-new" hat I own. I purchased this one from David at D Bar J in Vegas, shortly after he opened his first storefront shop on Spring Mountain Road, in 1989. I was in town for a work seminar, and as was my habit when I traveled, I scanned the Yellow Pages of whatever city I was in for western wear stores, on the lookout for boots and hats. With David’s newly-opened store, I hit the jackpot. He called this shape the Hackberry, named, so he said, after a cantankerous elderly black man in a small Texas town, many years ago. Never been able to verify that, but I like the story.

It was purchased for everyday wear, since I bought it a decade before I got into CAS. But, as time has passed, it’s been worn far more often for monthly shooting matches, than for routine daily life. It occurred to me looking over hats this morning, that it needed to get out and about even when gun smoke wasn't in the air.
