Keeping with the custom hat theme this week. Going to see if I can make it last. Today for a few errands, the 1942 Rose Bowl hat from Mike Miller. My first custom, now I have a stack of them.

It is cool to have a custom bespoke hat from this period. I'll have to look them up and see if there is anything historical I can provide.

I tried finding something about them for a bit, Mike, but without success as of yet.

Here's the logo on the liner. The building is still there, but neither M nor K was seen on Googoo Earth.

I hope your historian powers help us find more.

Note: The plastic over the logo gave me a difficult time capturing the details of the logo. The address was 117 W 4th Street. Downtown LA?

This morning I returned to Italy in the choice of the hat

Albertini - Argo - Marca Registrata 1817

The hat seems to be a find encapsulated over time. It is new and never used and seems to arrive for the workmanship and the finishing touches from the 40s.

The felt (Feltro rasato) is very light and of a "light nut" color. There are no indications of the manufacturer about the color and type of hat. The size plate is in centimeters 59, French size 6 and UK size 7 1/4.

The Albertini hat factory, founded in 1817, was the first hat manufacturer to use the machinery of the then emerging modern industry. He has "exported" his activities to England by setting up a factory after WWII

Yes, the blue on this one is always subtle. More midnight blue than blueberry. it came in it's original shipping case and looks to have had very little wear, so unless he had it redyed?

Thanks D. The suit is labeled Bond Designer Group and I would guess somewhere in the 70s. Probably poly in good part, and maybe should have had another pair of pants and a vest originally.

You know? Now that I think about it. Back in the 70's I had a 2 trouser suit with a reversible vest. Definitely a polyester blend. The second pair of trousers matched the pattern on the reverse side of the vest. LOL

Yes it very very nice. I have not fully committed myself to get rid of it. But I know I will very seldom wear it and for practical reasons I should let it go. An interesting thing about it is the color. The color name on the tag is the "N" word. In my mind I think that also dates the hat. I put it along the lines of Tom Sawyer, Uncle Tom's Cabin, etc...

Here are a few pictures of the labels. I have the middle letters of the "N" word blocked out in the picture but they are legible on the tag. And check out the union label. I love the "Be Just and Fear Not". It's a 7 1/8 UK which is a 7 1/4 US.

I always thought that Polly Esther was a top fashion designer of the era...

My college roommate burned his nice Polly Esther pants onto his thigh when the head of a match he was striking (to light a cigarette after dinner at Boston's venerable old Loch Ober restaurant) landed there, melting the plastic. Those were the days, eh?!

I don't see any reason to let this one go. Not only do I see the chance of someone checking behind your hat's sweatband inconceivably rare, but on the off-chance that does happen that person would likely understand, assuming they understand their history. It's how that shade of brown was often described in catalogs and on tags at the time, I wouldn't attribute it to yesteryear's racism.
