Today I've had a very fine morning and lunch with my brother, he took his camera, so you're getting a full report, and an overdose of my face and hat!
First we walked through the old streets of Barcelona, past the Palau de la Musica concert hall, a jewel of art nouveau architecture.
View attachment 63971 View attachment 63972
Then by pure chance we walked past the shop/workshop of a craftsman that makes awesome aprons and shirts from Japanese denim, who by the way was wearing a hat, Bramby Supply Co. I learnt the story behind Japanese denim and the narrow looms used originally by Levi's to make jeans, sold to the Japanese after WWII, and left the shop with the wonderful apron I'm wearing in the second picture. It has a leather front pocket, and wonderful suspender style strap leather back.

Finally we had lunch at "Circulo del Liceo", the club adjecent to the Liceo (Barcelona's opera house), which is also an art nouveau jewel, and miraculously survived the fire that ate up the opera house in 1994. They have interestingly a room full of hat racks, these days sadly relegated to hold bike helmets... but on the bright side they are still there, albeit a bit bare! (those are the only two pictures taken by me, and I did a lousy job).

Finally a big thank you to my brother Joaquin for taking those great pictures of me, you can see him on the reflection of one of the pictures!
And apologies if I overdid with the pictures, I promise it will not happen often!
A great report of a day out in a great city. Love the hat too. It certainly looks like a fun day was had by all.

How can you be cold with all those outer wear garments? What are they called again? ;)
You look nice in berets btw.
We refer to it as : een jas, een mantel.
You should try it sometimes. ;)
this 50s Royal today
I'm particularly fond of this overwelt ... and the felt on this piece is fantastic ... much more so than most of my hats from the 1950s

Another dog walking hat, Stetson xxxx. It has a hint of green that I really like.
When you have a German Short Hair Pointer, you need a good supply of walking hats, cause you walk A lot!

That looks awesome on you!
Great hats all over!

Bloody cold today. Tweed cap and jacket.

Looks wonderful!!
Stay warm! A very stylish look in your cold country.
Thank you.

I have been in my basement workshop all day making my first attempt at fashioning a foot tolliker from some poplar I picked up yesterday. The clearance is low down there, so no hat. Finished for the day and not planning on venturing out, so...

The Light Gray Stetsonian is for "El Roberto" (brim up, natch!)
View attachment 63969

The Dalton OR Clone is for my man, Anthony - "Mr. Crease"
View attachment 63968

This Mallory "The Dallas" is for "The Harvinator"
View attachment 63967

This (jauntily angled) Resistol San Antonio is for "Ms. Weis" and "The Rick-ster"

...and the Silvermist Gannon (my first and maybe favorite) is for me!!!

It's actually a F-16 tech meeting at Lockheed. I don't have resources to attend this year. I was hoping to tilt another with you soon.

No chicken fried steak and cute bartender at the H3
No trip to the Outlet
No brewskie with David
No carrot cake from Kathy at Lockheed

Well, we are often at H3, so I'll be sure to check in on the cute bartender for you [emoji1][emoji482]

Incredible find. I never see whippets for sale at a reasonable price!
After I looked at the prices they go for I was pretty much resigned to never having one unless one would happen to show up in the local thrifts. Imagine my delight when one showed up online with a thrift store buy it now price. Let's just say that I didn't read past the W before I was pressing the button.

Those are pretty standard Whippet specs.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
I thought they were pretty much ballpark specs. There does seem to have been some range on this model.

STooPinDIs Michael!
Thanks Matt. Now for a Gamebird.

Nice Whippet, Michael! I would say mid to late 1950's from what I see in your pictures. Earlier had a bit wider brim. I have one here that measures 2 3/4 from the ribbon to the edge. You have a fine example there. Love the color.
Thank you sir. I thought I had read that the earlier ones sported wider brims. I, too, like the color. It came to me in a very crushed state, but a modicum of steam perked it right up. It's not mint, but closer than most any other hat I have found.

I love it! That was a great era for women's hats.
Thank you! "Cualquier tiempo pasado fue mejor", as they say ;-)

Just got home about an hour ago from a 13 hour drive through California to Oregon. I'll have to catch up with the great hats that have been posted today. My Rose Bowl hat was right there with me for the entire 500+ miles. Stopped for a WHAYWT shot with Mt. Shasta in the background.

It has been said, but I will say it again, amazing view, and stylish look!

Cristina is not easy to give an answer.
This would require the time and above all to have in hand the restored hats
I did not restore many hats, only those for the basic price and the quality they deserve.
Only the Borsalino so far and paid figures are a small investment made on the quality of the hat
The Italian approach (Sergio Anzani - Cappelleria Melagari Milan) restoration is very conservative. The intention is to keep the original parts also in extremely precarious conditions. The intent is to restore the hat piece by piece with the preservation of its essence in form and felt.
The US approach (Bob at Black Sheep Hats Work) is more directed to meet customer needs. In my case two Borsalino they needed a new ribbon and sweatband. For a Borsalino fifties Bob found a liner of its time that went to fill that gap.
I was pleased with both of them, although times to wait were very long, but it was worth it.
Honestly I tell you that I would BSHW closer to Verona so I could try to refurbish a new pair of hats that have some fit problems.
The problem of restoring vintage hats is large and in Europe there are not many hatters suited to the need, so for a couple of hats I had to make do on their trip overseas.
When you will pass from Verona you will see the work so you can evaluate for yourself.
Super trip in the past!
Beautiful! Me encanta
Thank you for the explanation Daniele, I will take you up on your offer if I ever go back to Verona, I was there once, decades ago!

John I love that high crown, looks great!

Today I pay my tribute to the nostalgia of the 70's
It was the time when you could smoke in public places (bars and restaurants) and they were much more numerous than now, and in the afternoon of Friday, I young, I found my father's friends, his peers, with very similar hats of this of today
They would have tight brim and the high ribbon
dnbswl.jpg

This is a Vanzinas style by Borsalino of those early seventies
11vthtj.jpg

It has come down to us new and untouched.
It was in the box of hats for a long time to sell, but today, last Friday of the year 2016 I gave it the chance to take a ride
2repa2e.jpg

The color is "Selva" and felt one of the most beautiful in my possession.
5dq9hc.jpg

It is soft and almost velvety. The finishes are superb
2z8wxhd.jpg

It will return in a cardboard box to sleep with dreams of those years

Thanks for the likes on the French Tirard
Buon Venerdì (day of Venus)
Great hat! I miss the hats on the street, not so much the second hand smoke in restaurants!

That triple welt is gorgeous, and I'm just in love with that high front crown and overall bash!

Great hat and pictures @1mach1 that lateral light brings up the gorgeous texture of the felt!

A visit from the postman forced a midday hat change.

Dang there are a lot of nice hats out here today.

Michael
Hahaha, I love the idea that the hat has not yet decided what it wants to look like... perhaps it has forgotten and just needs to remember!
Great plaid trousers!

Hey people!
Many thanks for the likes on yesterday's project. Harder to make a sloppy careless looking bow (that doesn't look kike total crap) than it is to make a nice sharp crisp one. From what somebody posted shortly after I posted the pics of the original bow, the style only lasted a year or two. I think I know why...:)
Today is a great day for a G.B.Borsalino fu Lazzaro &C. Stiff Felt.
